What is 3D laser scanning used for in construction?
3D laser scanning captures existing buildings and spaces as accurate digital data, providing a reliable record of what’s actually there.
At IDRAWPRO, we use 3D laser scanning to support a range of project needs — from documenting existing conditions and complex spaces to renovation planning, as-built documentation, and Scan-to-BIM.
The scan captures the existing environment as point cloud data. From there, the information can be used directly for measurements and reference, or developed further into drawings and BIM models depending on the project.
This is especially useful when existing documentation is outdated, incomplete, or doesn’t provide enough information for the work ahead.
