🐾 Huge Win for Pets & Their Families in D.C.! 🐾
Starting this week, Roscoe’s Law officially goes into effect — and it’s a game‑changer for pets, their people, and the shelters working so hard to keep families together.
For the first time, landlords in D.C. can no longer ban pets based on breed, size, or weight. That means beloved dogs like pit bulls, German shepherds, huskies, and other commonly restricted breeds can finally have a fair chance at staying with the families who love them.
What this law means:
No more breed or weight discrimination
Refundable pet deposits capped at 15% of monthly rent
Pet rent limited to 1% of monthly rent
A push toward more pet‑friendly housing options
Fewer heartbreaking surrenders due to housing barriers
Animal welfare leaders say this will help keep families together, reduce shelter intake, and give every dog — no matter their appearance — a chance to be seen as an individual.
This is a powerful step toward a future where housing stability includes our pets, and where no one has to choose between a roof over their head and the animal they love.
Let’s celebrate this progress — and keep advocating for pet‑inclusive housing everywhere.
A D.C. law aims to limit the amount of fees and deposits residents must pay for pets.
