Three entities. One customer. How do you bill them without three spreadsheets?

A global customer rarely buys from one place. The parent signs one contract, but your US, UK and UAE entities each invoice in their own currency, under their own tax rules.

Where multi-entity billing usually breaks:
β†’ Each entity runs its own invoices, so nobody sees the full customer picture
β†’ Currencies get converted by hand at month end
β†’ Finance reconciles the same parent customer three times

What good multi-entity billing looks like:
β†’ One parent customer, with each entity billing in its local currency
β†’ Tax and compliance handled per region
β†’ One view of what the whole account owes

How SubscriptionFlow helps:
βœ” Multi-entity support, so every unit works from the same billing data
βœ” Multi-currency invoicing, so customers are billed in their local currency
βœ” Automated tax calculation for the regions you operate in
βœ” Automated revenue recognition (ASC 606 and IFRS 15)
βœ” Integrations with accounting and CRM tools, so data stays consistent
βœ” Real-time reporting across your subscription revenue

Is your billing set up around your entities, or around your customer?

Mid-Term Upgrades & Proration Without Invoice Errors

A customer upgrades on day 17 of a 30-day cycle. What should their invoice say?

Here's the mid-term proration math (illustrative):

β†’ Old plan: $60/mo = $2/day. 14 unused days = βˆ’$28.00 credit
β†’ New plan: $120/mo = $4/day. 14 remaining days = +$56.00 charge
β†’ Net due today: $28.00

The math is simple. The errors come from doing it by hand: wrong day counts, missing credit lines, or one lump sum the customer can't check.

Good mid-term proration shows the credit and the charge as separate line items, so finance can reconcile and support can explain it in one reply.

How SubscriptionFlow helps:
βœ” Detects the plan change the moment it happens
βœ” Splits the cycle and works out the credit and the new charge, by exact day or hour
βœ” Puts clear credit + charge lines on the invoice
βœ” Handles seat changes, mid-cycle cancellations and billing-date consolidation
βœ” Keeps prorated line items aligned with ASC 606 / IFRS 15 reporting

Six tools wired point-to-point can need up to 15 integrations. Through a billing hub, you need six: one connection per tool.

That's the idea behind a billing hub. It owns contracts, pricing, proration and invoicing, and your CRM, payments, tax tool and ERP each connect to it once.

The ownership rule: CRM owns relationships. Your gateway owns money movement. Your tax tool owns tax rules. Your ERP owns the books. The hub owns everything in between.

How SubscriptionFlow helps:
β†’ Closed-won deals arrive with ramp schedules and price overrides intact
β†’ Usage is rated against your price book and added to the same invoice as seats
β†’ Your payment gateway stays; we send it the total and take status back, including retries
β†’ Tax is calculated per invoice line, per entity
β†’ Clean journal entries and revenue schedules post to your ledger under ASC 606

Connect once. Bill right.

Ramp deals look simple on paper: Year 1 at one price, Year 2 at another, Year 3 higher still. πŸ“ˆ

The hard part is billing them right. Your system has to:
βœ” Charge the correct rate in every contract year
βœ” Track prepaid commits and bill true-ups
βœ” Prorate mid-term changes

SubscriptionFlow keeps all of it in one place, so finance, sales and ops stop chasing spreadsheets.

50 seats. 1.2M API calls. A seat change halfway through the month.

What does that customer's invoice look like?

If your billing system can't answer in one document, you have a hybrid billing problem. Hybrid billing means a subscription fee and metered usage billed together. Here's how the example works:

β†’ The 50 seats bill as a normal subscription charge
β†’ The 1.2M API calls are metered and rated against your usage pricing
β†’ The mid-cycle seat change is prorated for the days left in the cycle
β†’ All three land on one itemized invoice

No spreadsheet merging. No second invoice for usage. No manual proration math.

SubscriptionFlow combines subscriptions, metered usage and one-time charges in a single engine. It supports tiered and overage pricing, and revenue recognition is split automatically across the subscription and usage parts.

Your billing system worked fine with one plan. Then sales signed a ramp deal, product added usage pricing, and finance needs ASC 606.

That's when "enterprise billing software" stops being a checkbox. These are the questions that separate platforms for complex pricing:

β†’ Can one invoice combine seats, usage and add-ons?
β†’ Does it prorate mid-cycle upgrades without manual math?
β†’ Can you bill by multiple entities and currencies, with tax applied automatically?
β†’ Does it connect to your gateways, CRM and accounting stack?
β†’ Can finance trace deferred vs. earned revenue?

Where SubscriptionFlow stands out:
β€’ Hybrid, tiered, volume and usage-based pricing in one engine
β€’ Real-time metering feeding invoices directly
β€’ Termed contracts, calendar-date billing and quote-to-cash workflows
β€’ Multi-currency, multi-gateway and QuickBooks, Xero, Salesforce and HubSpot integrations
β€’ Dunning and payment retries built in

Usage-based billing only works if every event on the meter ends up correctly on the invoice.

This tutorial walks through the full path:
β†’ Capture usage events (API calls, seats, data, tokens)
β†’ Aggregate them by customer and metric
β†’ Rate them against tiered, pay-as-you-go or hybrid pricing
β†’ Bill them as line items on one invoice

No manual calculations and no usage slipping through the cracks.

Flat-rate pricing breaks when AI features, API calls or compute drive your costs. Pure usage pricing makes revenue hard to forecast and budgets hard to approve.

Hybrid pricing sits in the middle: a predictable recurring fee, plus metered usage on top.

Our new guide covers:
β†’ 3 common models: seats + allowance + overage, platform fee + metered usage, seats + add-ons + usage
β†’ The layers you need to automate it: metering, central plan data, a rating and proration engine, one combined invoice, dunning, and an audit trail
β†’ How to prorate mid-cycle: credit the old base fee, charge the new one, and split the usage allowance by time on each plan
β†’ Mistakes to avoid: prorating the fee but not the allowance, surprise overages (alert customers at 80% and 100%), too many meters, unwritten proration rules, and freemium without guardrails

Takeaway: write down your proration rules, then automate them so every invoice is accurate.
