For the Fall 2026 lecture series, CRAFT: Making, Method, and the Ethics of Production, at the University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, we developed a flexible graphic system based on ten custom-printed, three-inch-wide masking tapes. Eight tapes carried individual lecture information, alongside two master tapes featuring the overall series title.
Posters were created using a single strip of tape running down the center of a sheet of paper. The same tape could then be used to attach the posters throughout campus, creating a system for makeshift posters, temporary signage, and other promotional applications.
The concept reflected the series’ focus on craft, making, and methods of production, allowing the identity to be assembled, adapted, and reproduced using the material itself. A series of animations extended the visual language of the tapes into digital form.
