This is our home.
With you, we have spent a lot of time at home over the last several weeks, trying to do our part to help fight this virus. Our little business has had to adapt to this new reality, with an uncertain future ahead. And we’ve definitely grappled with how to handle this as a small business, as members of an incredible community here in Astoria, and as citizens — knowing that it is truly up to all of us to help each other through this time. And like you, we’ve seen our home change, evolve and become so much more in recent weeks. While we have always operated our business from our home, we can honestly say that what our home (and we’re sure your home) has been asked to do this past month has created a new sense of what ‘home’ really is.
We have also pondered how to respond as a small business. When your life and livelihood relies directly on your community, it’s honestly really hard to figure out what to say, if anything. We’ve definitely felt the absence of our community - the homes we would visit, the events that were planned and the great individuals and families that we would get to see every day, while doing what we love.
We know that what has always helped us stay sane has been a commitment to positive energy and optimism. While we ride out this storm together from our most special places and spaces, and adapt to the ever changing world around us, we would love to invite you to celebrate the stories of the Herculean task your home has been charged with. We love to tell stories of our home and the homes we’ve had the honor of getting to know, and we invite you to do the same about yours.
How has your home been transformed as it has had to become a workspace, schoolroom, playground, kitchen, and an escape all at the same time? Has your view of home changed? Have you made any changes to your home to adapt to this new (hopefully temporary) way of life? Have you found a new nook to get cozy in or a spot that helps you be productive while kids are running all around you?
