85% of ecommerce traffic is on mobile.

Almost none of it happens inside a brand’s own app.

For India that gap is strange. Our consumers are the
most app-native in the world. Zepto, Blinkit, Swiggy,
Myntra. We do not browse and compare. We open the app.

But ask a D2C founder why they do not have one and
the answer has always been the same. Too expensive.
Too slow. Too much engineering.

That answer just expired.

Here is what actually changed

1/ The barrier was never demand. It was build time.

Mayank Agarwal, our co-founder and CTO, put it simply. Building
a good app could take three months. Four months. A year
if you wanted it done properly.

That is why so few brands have one. Not because
customers did not want it.

2/ The barrier is gone now.

“With AI coming in, that technology barrier has been
removed completely. It is all about imagination now.
What you can imagine, you can tell the agent, test it,
make it live.”

3/ And the channel was always the better one.

“Shopping experience on app is far superior compared
to web. All the metrics prove it. Session time.
Conversion rate. People just browsing products.”

> 3x higher conversion rate than mobile web
> 6x higher customer lifetime value

Now put those two things together. No build barrier,
and a channel that already converts three times better
than the one you are pouring all your ad spend into.

The supply just got unlocked. The demand was always there.

I do not think this stays a small category for much
longer :)

For the founders reading this, what actually stopped

you from building an app so far? Cost, or something else?

08/27/2026

Our commits went up 5x.

But the number that actually matters is different.

Mayank, our CTO:
“The number of people committing has more than
doubled. Our product people are on GitHub. Our
designers are on GitHub.”

Coding stopped being a department.

More features shipped. More experiments run.
Not because engineers got faster.

Because more people could build.

The bottleneck was never ideas.
It was who had permission to try.

The hardest part of building is knowing what you
have not solved yet.

Sharat Chandra, our Co-Founder and CPO, listing the
problems still open:

“Design, integrations, and customizations. Those are
the three things we are still solving for.”

Design took most of a year. It works now.

Integrations are next, and they are harder than they
look. Having a pre-built module is not the same as an
agent knowing when to reach for it, wiring it in
correctly, and showing you the result instantly.

Reviews. Loyalty. Search. CRM. Each one is its own
problem.

“These are the things the agent needs to get better at.”

I like that framing. Not “we have solved this.” Not
“this is done.” Just a clear statement of where the
work still is.

Most of building is that. A list of things that do
not work yet, worked through one at a time, in an
order that mostly makes sense in hindsight.

The teams that ship keep that list honest.

What is the one thing still on your list?

08/20/2026

AI gives you the average of everything it has
ever seen.

That is the problem.

Mayank Agarwal, our Co-Founder and CTO, on why
so much AI-generated work looks the same.

If you started at 10 percent, that average feels
like a huge upgrade.

But the bar moves with it.

As the average gets easier to reach, the expectation
climbs past it.

“Your creativity skills will be needed. If you are
solving a problem that is unique to you, you have to
push it. Claude can’t do that for you.”

The tool got powerful. The outcome still depends
entirely on how you use it.

Can you tell when something was made by AI?

Will AI destroy jobs or make everyone
more productive?

We asked our own engineers.

Sharat, our CPO: the role changes, but more
gets built and more jobs get created.

Mayank, our CTO: the early level work is already
gone. The deep expertise is not going anywhere.

“Jobs will be replaced, not gone.”

Stop micromanaging your AI automation workflows. Learn why trusting AI agents to handle ex*****on is more effective than manual control.

Many businesses struggle with AI automation workflows because they try to intervene too much. This discussion highlights the common mistake of interfering with autonomous agents. Instead of trying to do the work yourself, focus on refining the harness, the tools you provide, and the quality of feedback you give to the model.

Current AI models are highly capable on their own. By stepping back and letting the agents execute tasks, you often achieve better results.

This video explains how to shift your mindset from manual oversight to optimizing the interaction framework, ensuring your AI automation workflows run smoother and more reliably.

“Don’t do it yourself. Let the agent do the work.
Do not underestimate the model.”

That is Mayank Agarwal, Co-Founder and CTO at
Appbrew, on the mistake his own team kept making
with AI automation.

The pattern he saw internally: people taking things
into their own hands and telling the agent explicitly
do this way, do that way, step by step.

The output got worse, not better.

“The models that are already there right now are far
capable by themselves. It is just the harness that
needs to be improved. The tools we give, how we
execute, how we give feedback to the model. Those
things need improving.”

That reframe changes where the work happens.

You are not writing better instructions. You are
building better tools, better context, and better
feedback loops around a model that is already more
capable than most teams are using it for.

Appbrew learned this the hard way while building
their app generation agent. Their first approach
gave the model fixed step by step instructions.
It plateaued around 60 percent.

What actually worked was giving it fewer instructions
and better tools.

Comment “founder” for the episode

For the first time, all three Appbrew co-founders
are on the podcast together. Abhijeet Singh,
Sharat Chandra, and Mayank Agarwal.

Unfiltered, and mostly about the things they usually
only discuss internally.

Here is some of what we get into:

→ How our first app took four months to build.
The agent now generates four versions in minutes.
→ Why we started with completely the wrong approach
to AI, and what fixed it.

→ The three things every team has to unlearn to
build AI-native.
→ Why conversation is replacing the traditional UI.
→ Whether AI takes software engineering jobs.
→ Where the app channel goes from here.

Four years of building.

This conversation is all about how all things product, tech and ai
happened at Appbrew
