Debuting this weekend Printed Matter Art Book Fairs the 6 volume of Signs & Artifacts series now in collaboration with Extra Credit and featuring the signs and artifacts of Itaewon, Seoul, South Korea. Find us this weekend at table T 27 on the second floor and available online!

Itaewon is most frequently described as an international district, a multicultural center, or sometimes more pejoratively, a foreigner hub. But Itaewon is still perhaps one of the only neighborhoods in Seoul where you can find a grocery store that sells sambal and curry leaves, a restaurant that serves halal meat, and a photographer who doesn’t need to be reminded of the Canadian passport photo rules. As clumsy attempts at revival alter the fabric of the neighborhood, artist Jean Y. Kim travels back to Itaewon to document its disappearing graphic legacy.

Published in collaboration with Jean Y. Kim and Extra Credit, Signs & Artifacts 6: Itaewon continues Secret Riso Club’s signature project documenting the often-overlooked design iconography that color the neighborhoods we inhabit. Originally started in 2018, the Signs & Artifacts project has travelled far from its roots in New York City. Secret Riso Club and Extra Credit hope that its newest international iteration, Signs & Artifacts 6: Itaewon, will faithfully honor the pluralistic legacy of the neighborhood.

🧑‍💻Join us for an ONLNE edition of TouchDesigner for Print taught by GRNCH 👾

☝️TouchDesigner is a real-time generative graphics application capable of producing everything from noise-driven abstract compositions to complex mathematical forms. In this class, we’ll use it as a design tool for print — building generative poster artwork and then preparing it for life on the Risograph.

🔄We’ll go through multiple examples of how to create beautiful generative compositions in TD with a focus on static output: working at print resolution, exporting high-quality still frames, and separating your artwork into two color channels ready for Riso printing.

No experience necessary! Select the option for Riso prints if you’d like your art printed and mailed to you. 💌

Artworker: Doing Time in the New York Artworld
Written by Alan W. Moore
Published by The Journal of Aesthetics & Protest

“A reader complained that this book starts too abruptly, like ‘a brick in the head.’ Well, I never want to bore you. And New York City can be like that. This book is very much about living in that town.” Alan W. Moore, not one to beat around the bush, proclaims in the very first line. And for 224 pages, he does just that—part reminiscence, part criticism, Moore has a lot to say about his time working with and alongside the art collective Collaborative Projects, and even more to say about the city that played host to—and occasionally fought against—the artist in the turbulent and generative decades of the 1970s-80s. Irreverent and informative—with exceptional design by Lamm & Kirch that effortlessly moves with his winding narrative style—Moore takes us on a jagged journey through a city that no longer exists, ruminating on art, ambition, and what it means to become “historical”.

Softcover, perfect bound, 224 pages, 2022
