Special thanks to Sarah Richard for featuring me and Carecopilot in her Golden Age of Technology newsletter. In 'my' feature, I talk about why I started Carecopilot different pivots that I've made while building Carecopilot (there have certainly been a few), and how I knew that I was really on to something.

To read the article, visit https://goldenageoftech.beehiiv.com/p/founder-spotlight-alyse-dunn-carecopilot

If you're a professional building technology for older adults and/or the people who care for them, I'd definitely suggest checking out her newsletter more broadly. Link to all previous posts here: https://goldenageoftech.beehiiv.com/

Every month, I host a FREE event here in New York City for people who are taking care of their aging parents. All of the events really are free. I sponsor them through my company Carecopilot which makes calls, fills out forms, and handles other administrative hassles on behalf of people who are juggling work and caregiving.

This month, I'm hosting a free 'boozy brunch' at Lady Blue in Hell's Kitchen. There are only a few spots left. So, to sign up and learn more, visit https://www.meetup.com/new-york-city-caregiving-for-aging-parents-meetup-group/events/300524518/

Hope to see you there!

I think we can all agree that artificial intelligence (AI) is at least a LITTLE controversial. Some are super excited about AI and its capabilities. Others find AI scary, and consider it a threat to jobs. My personal feelings about AI are complicated. Admittedly though, applications like this do excite me: https://bluerivertechnology.com/our-products/

In short, agriculture company Blue River Technology river is using computer vision (a category of AI) to:

1. 'Look' at huge plots of farmland.
2. Identify the weeds from the actual food.
3. Spray herbicides on only the weeds. This saves farmers money, and it saves people like us from ingesting any more herbicides than we have to.

Given that my company Carecopilot is in the health tech space, I tend to pay more attention to AI use cases in healthcare, but I still thought this one was pretty cool.

Farmers must protect their growing crops throughout the season from aggressive weeds. Crops need space, access to sunlight and key nutrients to thrive. A farmer’s first line of defense against weeds is chemicals. But unfortunately today, application technology sprays the entire field instead of ju...

Special thanks to Columbia University and my friend, professor Shoaib Ahamed, for inviting me in to speak with a class of undergraduate students about my company Carecopilot and the tech that we use to power our service.

Was I invited to lecture because the founders of NYC tech companies like Etsy and Zocdoc were unavailable? Probably. Was I still honored to do it? Absolutely.

'Age Tech' is any technology that serves older adults, and/or the people who care for them. That's not a formal definition. That's an Alyse definition. Regardless, if you're running a startup in the 'Age Tech' space here in New York City, and you'd like to connect with other people who are doing the same, you may want to check out this in-person event happening next week. I'll be there repping Carecopilot.

Every month I sponsor a free, in-person event for people who are caring for an aging loved one here in NYC. One month, it was free manicures. Another month, it was a Yankees game. All events really are free, since I sponsor them through my company Carecopilot

This month, we're doing a 'Paint and Sip' class in midtown. This month's event is already sold out, but there will be plenty more coming soon. So, if you or someone you know is caring for an aging loved one and could use a break, please be sure to join our Meetup group. Then you'll be the first to know about upcoming events before they sell out: https://www.meetup.com/new-york-city-caregiving-for-aging-parents-meetup-group/

Oh, and if you can't make it to the event, but you're taking care of someone and could use a skilled caregiving expert to help you navigate everything, be sure to check out Carecopilot at https://carecopilot.co/. Our specially trained 'Care Copilots' help families interview in-home care aides, apply for caregiver grants, and execute on just about everything else when it comes to taking care of an aging loved one.

My company Carecopilot provides U.S.-based, HUMAN personal assistants to people who are caring for aging loved ones. I call them 'care copilots'. These care copilots allow the caregivers of aging loved ones to spend more time enjoying their family, and less time on administrative annoyances.

The most common question that I get about Carecopilot is: What types of problems do the 'care copilots' help families with? So, here are a few recent examples:

1. We called 18 (yes, seriously, 18) different in-home care agencies to find one that could send an in-home care aide to a family in a remote suburb.

2. We found a visiting doctor AND a visiting dentist (both still exist, but are rare) who were willing to travel to a client's mother who refused to leave home to go to appointments.

3. We visited three different assisted living communities on the shortlist of a woman caring for her mother, so that we could ask the tough questions that she didn't know to ask and help her come to a decision that her and her mother could feel good about. I did those three visits myself. I'm always honest with families about which communities I would have trusted with my own parents.

The types of tasks that our care copilots complete for clients vary, but one thing remains the same: We do the legwork so that families don't have to. So, if you or someone you know could use an extra set of hands, check us out at https://carecopilot.co/ and schedule a free call to talk about what we can take off of your plate.

I recently came across a review website just for the types of tools that tech founders tend to use. Digital tools for accounting, legal, document management, and more. It's (seriously) called 'Founders Hate':

https://www.foundershate.com/

Newer founders often ask me what I use for accounting, legal, and more. So, I think this review site has potential, particularly with a name that memorable. Unfortunately there are very few reviews within each category right now (probably because the site is new and has SO many categories), but this could be a good one a few months or years down the line.

Did you know that in ADDITION to monthly social security payments, older adults might ALSO qualify to receive monthly Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments? They can get up to $943/month. This article from the National Council on Aging has more info:

https://www.ncoa.org/article/what-is-supplemental-security-income-ssi

Like all programs, it can be confusing to determine whether or not your loved one qualifies, fill out all of the paperwork for them, e.t.c. That's where my company Carecopilot comes in. Our human, U.S.-based 'care copilots' make the calls and complete the paperwork for you. They're like personal assistants who have been specially trained to help people who are caring for aging loved ones. To learn more and set up a free call to see exactly what we can take off your plate for you, visit us at https://carecopilot.co/

Special thanks to all of the NYC-based friend and family caregivers who took a night off from caring for their loved ones to attend this month's caregiver event! This month, we enjoyed a boozy ice cream sundae making class at Tipsy Scoop The sundaes were delicious, and the company was just as sweet 🍦🙂 🍨

If you or someone you know is taking care of an aging loved one and could use a night off every once in a while, consider joining our Meetup group at https://www.meetup.com/new-york-city-caregiving-for-aging-parents-meetup-group/.

Every month, we host a different event for family caregivers of aging loved ones. Think free manicures, free Yankees games, and more. All events really are free for caregivers, as everything is sponsored through my company Carecopilot

We just posted April's event: A 'paint and sip' class in midtown manhattan. So, be sure to join now. Spots obviously fill up fast for these events. See you in April!

Taking care of an aging loved one is hard. REALLY hard. I'd know. My sister and I took care of both of our aging parents for a total of 8 years before they passed away (with significant help from relatives and paid aides).

This is exactly why I created Carecopilot We provide highly-trained, human personal assistants to people who are juggling the care of an aging loved one with everything else that life throws our way. Our 'care copilots' make the calls and send the emails needed to find the right in-home care aide, get your loved one into that clinical trial, apply for that caregiver grant, and everything else that comes up when you're caregiving.

Carecopilot has a variety of different pricing options for various budgets. That said, we understand that paying for this much-needed help might still be out-of-budget for some. That's why we're offering our services for FREE to three lucky families for 3 months. So, if you or anyone you know is taking care of an aging loved one and could benefit from a FREE personal assistant for three months, complete this form. It'd be our honor to support you:

If you're a pre-series A tech startup founder in NYC, and you're interested in meeting other founders at the same stage, you may want to check out this event later this month organized by nextNYC:

https://www.preseriesaoffsite.com/

I won't be attending this year, but I did attend last year. I definitely met some really cool founders who I remain close with to this day. I'm a big believer that having strong relationships with other founders exponentially increases your company's success. So, if you could use a few more founder friends in your life, you may want to hit this one up.

Spend a day in Brooklyn learning from top Series A and seed investors, experienced start-up CEOs, and your fellow founders—presented by nextNYC.
