A green and eco-friendly ♻️ future is possible! And it starts with you adopting environmentally conscious habits, like making your 👕 closet more sustainable.

As consumers become more aware that their garment choices affect the 🌎 planet, there’s more attention on sustainable, slow fashion rather than on fast fashion, as the latter is a statement of responsibility. Plus, plant-based 🌱 and biodegradable fibers are starting to scale up, and production is no longer limited.

If you want to make your wardrobe more environmentally friendly, keep the “𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞, 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬” mantra in mind. Fashion is an industry that’s constantly growing, but to fight the demand and help the planet, start by wearing what you already have. Avoid 🛍️ impulse shopping!

Sometimes, buying a new garment is unavoidable, but don’t feel bad about it! You can 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 👍 and source their plant-based fibers responsibly. Just keep an eye out for those companies who are greenwashing.

Since producing one kilogram of cotton, you need 20.000 liters of 💧 water, so stop wasting resources to produce new clothes and instead opt to 𝐛𝐮𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝-𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝. There are many online thrift shops like DePop, or you can hunt for fabulous garments on eBay and Facebook Marketplace!

Every effort matters, and when you choose to go green, you’re making a real positive impact on the environment! 🙌

Plastic is present everywhere, even in the most unexpected places. 🤯

At first glance, it doesn’t seem like ☕𝐭𝐞𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐠𝐬 have plastic, right? Well, they’re heat-sealed used polyethylene, so even if you try to compost it, you won’t be able to. You can compost the 🍃 leaves but not the teabag itself. Keep an eye out for brands that use plastic-free packaging or, better yet, switch to loose-leaf tea!

Using 🧴𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 is one of the essentials of skincare, but they usually contain microplastics to bind the ingredients together. The worst part is that when you go swimming, shower, or bathe, these tiny fragments of plastic get washed off into the 🌊 water. But manufacturers are already searching for ways to get rid of microplastics in sunscreens, like Nivea, who went microplastic-free in 2021.

𝐆𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 ✨ might look super impressive, but it’s a microplastic! Doesn’t matter if it’s for cosmetics or for crafting. Glitter can’t be recycled. Some eco-friendly alternatives include Wild Glitter, an EU-certified biodegradable glitter made from 🌱 plant-based materials. However, if you’re thinking about your new year goals, why not go glitter free?

Even if it’s a little overwhelming at first, it’s vital to be aware of the presence of plastic. Only then can you make informed choices and take action on plastic pollution. 💪

Microplastics are everywhere. They are tiny 5mm wide plastic particles that pollute the environment. While they come from different sources, you can take actives steps to reduce their spread across the planet! 🌎🌱

Be mindful when you’re on the lookout for garments and 𝐛𝐮𝐲 👚 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬. Clothes made with synthetic material, like polyester, hugely contribute to the microplastic problem. Instead, search for natural fibers like cotton, wool, silk, and h**p.

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 👋 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞-𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬. When they break down in landfills, they produce secondary microplastics. You can start by buying from zero-waste grocery stores, using reusable cups and straws, utilizing fabric bags when you go out for 🛒 shopping, and always carrying a reusable water bottle with you.

Next, keep an eye out and read the labels, as you want to 𝐛𝐮𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 💄 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜. Household products and the cosmetic industry use microbeads in products like exfoliators. So, avoid shopping for products that have Polyethylene (PE), Polyethylene terephthalate (PET or PETE), Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), and nylon.

Microplastics may be everywhere, but so are the campaigns, organizations, and initiatives fighting against them. Doing your part to reduce the number of microplastics in your home and the environment is an intelligent step to take, as it’s a significant piece of the environmental puzzle. 🤗

When you’re aware, you make better decisions and change your behavior to reduce 🌎 environmental impact and your carbon footprint. But where to begin? 🤔

Make a switch and 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙗𝙪𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 🌱 𝙨𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨. Shop for locally produced goods and support brands that have transparent and solid sustainability initiatives. Steer clear from foods with excess 🛍️ packaging, and fast fashion, and go for recycled, repurposed, and eco-friendly furniture.

𝙇𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙮 𝙬𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚 𝙢𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙨 𝙛𝙚𝙬𝙚𝙧 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙣𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙜𝙖𝙨 𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨! When you’re mindful of your electricity and heating consumption you take care of the planet and save some 💸 bucks at the same time. Switch off unnecessary lights, unplug unused electronics, take shorter showers, fix leaking appliances… see? Simple actions add up to a great outcome! 👍

𝙎𝙖𝙮 𝙗𝙮𝙚-𝙗𝙮𝙚 👋 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙡𝙚-𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘. Wet wipes, disposable utensils, coffee cups, it all takes hundreds or thousands of years to decompose in landfills and ends up damaging 🦎 wildlife too. Invest in reusable bags, water bottles, and cups.

When you implement healthy habits like these, everybody wins and you inspire others to be ♻️environmentally conscious as well. Choose a sustainable lifestyle and spread the green word to make a meaningful contribution to a better world! 🙌

Statistics are shocking 🤯 when it comes to the textile industry pollution: Fabric treatment makes up for about 20% of the world’s ☢️wastewater, and the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions.

But how did humanity get to those numbers? One of the sources of water 💧 pollution is cotton farming. Cotton requires tremendous water for irrigation and treatment, thus depleting local freshwater. And to maximize 📈 production, companies use pesticides and fertilizers, which destroy the soil and its microbial ecosystem.

Another silent danger is microfiber pollution. Half a million tonnes of microfibers are dumped in the ocean yearly. When synthetic fiber 👕 clothes are washed, they release synthetic particles, like nylon and polyester, that take hundreds of years to decompose, altering underwater 🐠 ecosystems.

Right now, there’s an overproduction of clothes due to the 🛍️ fast fashion culture. As a consumer, you can stop this by purchasing second-hand garments, preferring long-term use quality clothes, and repairing or donating old attires. 👍 Also, go for organic cotton and linen and avoid shopping for synthetic fibers.

Companies need to be held accountable for their negative impact on the 🌱 environment. To make a significant change, there must be a collective effort by pressing companies for transparency and sustainability. 💪

A small action that translates into significant, 🙌positive change. Bringing your own reusable bags every time you go 🛍️shopping will help you answer the question “paper or plastic.”

The war on single-use plastic isn’t easy, but you can help ease plastic bag pollution by getting and using a reusable bag. What about paper bags? 🤔💭Sure, they can be recycled, but they’re made from🌳 trees (which need to be conserved) and take a lot of energy to produce.

The reusable bag is the way to go when it comes to 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 🐢𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚. Sea creatures confuse plastic bags with food, and statistics show that over 100,000 marine animal deaths are caused yearly, according to SPREP.org. Plastic bags can get entangled in trees, and small animals can get trapped in them too.

𝙍𝙚𝙪𝙨𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙗𝙖𝙜𝙨 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙗𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙨 𝙬𝙚𝙡𝙡. If you need a tote to run a quick errand, something to pack your 🌮lunch, or to carry 📚books from the library to your home, your reusable bag’s got you covered!

Think that plastic bags were introduced at grocery stores in 1977, and people were just fine carrying their purchase home in their bags before that. 𝙏𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙥 𝙩𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙖 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘-𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙛𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙖 𝙧𝙚𝙪𝙨𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙗𝙖𝙜! 🙌

The production of fossil-fueled 👗synthetic fabrics holds up 1.35% of global oil consumption. The damage petroleum-derived fabrics are causing to the 🌎environment is not as evident as it should be due to greenwashing.

Brands that have marketed themselves as 🌱sustainable and have a reputation for transparency, like Lulu Lemon or Patagonia, share little to no data on their use of synthetics. 🤨

Most 🏃‍♀️activewear is made with fossil-fueled materials, and industry giants like Adidas, Puma, and Nike, are some of the most significant users of synthetics by tonnage. Nike particularly disclosed to use of 152.723 tonnes of polyester in the year 2020.

Plastic particles have been found in rain samples and 💦water from the Atlantic ocean. Brands are marketing pollutive materials as♻️ sustainable or better for the environment. Consumers are being misled, and companies are using the rise of recycled synthetics as easy marketing and virtue signaling without doing any positive change.

Keep an eye out for 👀pieces of garments being marketed as sustainable. Companies cherry-pick the information in their advertisements, and you might buy something that ends up in landfills alongside conventional retailers.🗑️

Brands must develop a 0% synthetics approach and start acting coherently. Producers must assume responsibility and scale up their infrastructure for fiber-to-fiber recycling technologies to advance toward viable alternatives.🙌

Living a zero-waste lifestyle whether at home or in your business, means you strive to use as little single-use plastic as possible, instead opting for 🌱sustainable and ♻️reusable alternatives.

In short, it means you send as little as possible to landfills, which can damage the environment and natural habitat around them.

You start with replacing as much as possible with reusable products including everything from 👚clothing, to food and 🧃drink packaging, to hygiene products, either more sustainable or plastic-free, which ultimately protects the environment, benefit communities, and support a circular economy.🙌

While zero waste may sound like an unachievable pie-in-the-sky goal, it’s just a 🎯goal, a visionary term with the intention of having a positive impact on the planet.🌎

It’s not really about perfection; it’s about making a conscious effort to make better choices.🔥

Over the last decade, the fashion industry has been associated with uncontrolled consumption, environmental pollution, and labor exploitation on all levels.😱

However, while the fast-fashion industry was being exposed, a whole world of possibilities opened up with sustainable fashion, as well as with the 🌱Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the 🌎United Nations 2030 Agenda.

The 👗fashion industry should play an active role in improving the quality of life in the communities where it operates. It should provide better and 👷‍♂️safer working conditions for its employees, and ensure that no member of the value chain is living below the poverty threshold.🙌

Going Green typically applies to the behavior you are taking to lessen your impact on the planet. 🌎

But you can also apply it to the products you buy by referring to them as 🌱"green," in the same way as calling them ♻️"eco-friendly."

Going green can be defined as environmentally friendly decisions to "reduce, reuse, and recycle." This could mean weather-stripping your home to make it more energy-efficient, using cold water cycles on your washing machine to save energy, or recycling your pillows properly.

However, companies can also use this term to describe their behavior, and you need to be aware of greenwashing here.🧐
