This October marked the 30th anniversary of Bent Media, a digital media company that has been a pioneer in the industry since 1992.

Over the past three decades, Bent Media has helped countless brands succeed online through a wide range of services, from touchscreen kiosks to CD-ROMs, screensavers, web sites, e-commerce, digital marketing, banner ads, email, content marketing, social media marketing, and more.

Red Bean City is a museum exhibit on the history of Red Beans in New Orleans created by Bent Media and Camellia Brand at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum. The grand opening to kick off the exhibit had a round table discussion about Red Beans and Rice with Chef Leah Chase. We also raised a birthday toast to New Orleans’ most famous red bean lover, jazz hero Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong, while being serenaded by Al “Carnival Time” Johnson.

The Red Bean City exhibit explores how and why this beloved dish is an unstoppable weekly ritual and a symbol of local culture and way of life in New Orleans. The Hayward family of Camellia Beans tells their story going all the way back to 1836, and you’ll get a look at how a New Orleans trumpet player, a small army of creole cooks, a chicken king’s secret chef, and the people of New Orleans helped propel the red kidney bean to worldwide acclaim.

Bent Media is proud to present a recently launched project: A Closer Walk: Interactive New Orleans Music History Map, developed in conjunction with our longtime partners the Ponderosa Stomp Foundation and WWOZ 90.7 FM New Orleans.

Music has always been integral to daily life in New Orleans, and its landmarks can blend into its neighborhoods. The history of the city’s music, and its outsized influence in popular music everywhere, can be traced to creole cottages, parlors, churches, and street corners as well as concert halls and auditoriums. Some are still active; others have been transformed or demolished. A Closer Walk highlights and contextualizes these sites, to advocate for their future, to celebrate their memory, and to honor the men and women who have shared their music with us.
