AI isn’t just answering questions anymore. It’s taking action.

A recent incident showed an AI agent triggering the deletion of a company’s production database—and the backups went with it in seconds.

Not a hack.
Not an insider.
Just AI doing what it believed was the correct action.

Important nuance: the agent didn’t independently target backups. It deleted a storage volume, and because the backups were configured within that same system (and set to be scrubbed on deletion), they were removed automatically.

Before you connect AI to your systems, ask:
• Do we have strict permission controls (least privilege)?
• Are destructive actions gated with approvals?
• Are environments (dev/staging/prod) truly isolated?
• Do we have secure, independent backups?
• Are we monitoring AND auditing AI actions in real time?

Bottom line:
AI can absolutely accelerate your business—but without the right controls, it can also amplify risk at machine speed.
