After Miguel Guzmán passed away in 2006, his German Shepherd mix Capitán disappeared from his family’s home. Months later, they discovered something they could hardly believe. Capitán was sitting beside Miguel’s grave at a cemetery he had never visited before.
The family tried several times to bring Capitán back home, but each time he returned to the cemetery. They eventually realized that the loyal dog had chosen to stay close to the person who had meant so much to him.
For the next 11 years, Capitán became a beloved part of the cemetery. He spent his days walking around the grounds, but every evening around 6 p.m., he returned to Miguel’s grave and settled there for the night. Cemetery workers and local residents looked after him, making sure he had food, medicine, and care as he grew older.
When Capitán passed away in 2018 at around 15 years old, the community found a special way to honor his devotion. A bronze statue was placed at the entrance of the same cemetery where he spent years waiting beside his owner. His story continues to remind visitors that the bond between a person and their animal can leave a lasting mark. ❤️🐾
