I’m grateful for this motherhood experience. It’s given me clarity, vision, ambition and determination in ways my previous self could not imagine if it tried.

Despite the changes in my body, the stress of daily life and the never-ending threats of stupids in this world.

Being a military spouse is not for the faint of heart.

But to be completely honest, I’m glad I am one of them. I have met the kindest, smartest, most ambitious people in this community. It accepted me, helped me grow into the first generation immigrant mother I ought to be, with its many trials and tribulations.

And no we didn’t get married because he wanted to move out of barracks and I needed healthcare.

Lee Hood, one of the shiniest gems in New Bern in my opinion.

I remember seeing his artwork here for the first time and his style left a deep impression on me.

New Bern has a rich history and Lee is one of the pillars of expressing and retelling stories of African American heritage and culture here.

It was pure luck and an absolute honor to be able to have him sit for me.

I was not right to doubt myself.

I thought i@had lost the knack. Turns out just need more practice.

I can see it coming back to me.

Also I can still sense the difference in the pressure I put onto myself when I draw men and women. With men, I have less sense of obligation of helping them feel confident thru my sketches, with women, I’m still a little afraid to hurt their feelings if something is a little “off”.

Something we all gotta work on ourselves.
