*make-readies are the misprints and multi-layered prints made during the process of preparing a poster for the final print run. They are what we consider “accidental art” because each one is unique, colorful, and unplanned.

New to the gift shop! A gaggle of our favorite four-legged friends have come together to make rainy days less of a drag and sunny days a bit cooler. All of the pups and kitties that have been near and dear to the shop over the years, including shop cats Huey and Maow, make appearances in artwork built from the hand-carved printing blocks used in the shop daily.

No just “straight-out-of-the-can” colors here! These coffee cups may not have rolled off one of our printing presses, but they do come in colors that look like we custom mixed them. With the shop’s logo in a lighter shade on top, seeing one (or a pair) of these in the coffee cabinet is a delightful start to the day.

A new mural and a new neon sign (it is real neon!) are in place to help visitors locate our gift shop. Come on down! The same wall of prints and posters anchors the awesome array of gifts, apparel, stationery supplies, and more. Plus, now you can take a seat to ponder your decisions and peruse one or more of the library books we’ve stocked, including a handful written by staff past and present!

If these walls could talk, the stories they’d tell. Fortunately, our tour guides know so many stories, you’ll never run out of wonder on a Hatch Show Print tour.

Telling the story of this great old print shop includes wandering through the history of printing, American advertising, graphic arts, and Nashville, as well as the stories of a great many of our long-time or renowned customers. Our guides do it without boring visitors to tears!

Tour attendees are invited to hand-ink and print the final layer of a commemorative print designed by our tour guides, and it’s quite likely that some of the other layers of ink on the print were applied by them as well. They’ll tell you how it was done.

Happy Tomato Arts Fest to all of our friends and family across the river in East Nashville! We’re ready!
