Perfect boot to ROM of newly assembled 1.2 revision of the motherboard. More test to come next. 🔥🔥🔥

Rev 1.2 brings these improvements:
* VGA output connector becomes default (no RGB2VGA adapters necessary)
* Adds separate Videl chip clock allowing higher resolution graphic modes with BlowUp software or similar
* Replaces obsoleted Atari custom packaged DSP with available off the shelf PQFP-132 version.

Latest rev 1.2 motherboard first boot to ROM.

The motherboard Rev 1.2 is now assembled for initial bring up over this weekend. Remaining connectors get soldered after we get basic system functions up and running including video

For fan fans. With latest mobo, you can install fan with or without metal bracket. The fan connector J22 has been also moved close to it to reduce wiring under the hood. This silent fan example is a good choice.

Four updates come with latest Rev 1.2 motherboard.

* Separate socketed clock oscillator for Videl chip, enabling it's overclocking to take advantage of BlowUp software to define high resolution screen modes.

* Addressed DSP obsolescence. With original PQFP-80 package DSP becoming close to out of stock, a replacement in mainstream PQFP-132 package is added. Also, DSP SRAM footprints now support original SOJ and also available today SOP chips.

* Added easy patch to route original RGB video output to VGA socket for direct hook-up of analog VGA compatible monitor. No need for RGB2VGA adapter anymore.

* To way fan mount. It allows installing fan with original metal bracket. Or without.

The PCB is undergoing final assembly after which will be installed on test bench for bring up and debug before release.

This may look like too much, but I am not trying to print too many cases. These four represent four stages of design improvements aimed at achieving better 3D FDM printing results.

Blue was the 1st prototype. It is still usable, so I am finishing it by printing the last piece (not shown).

Dark gray was the 2nd. It has an improved grill, but still shows some visible flaws that required another design update. It is still a usable case, although not perfect. I am currently awaiting for a other filament spool to print the bottom.

Beige was the 3rd trial. The grill came out perfect. Despite the color, which some of you called a "smoker's house" or "yellowed," it actually looks quite different in person and has its own unique charm. I printed the remaining pieces, and I'm going to keep this one for one of the future ReFalcon motherboard revisions.

Finally, the 4th - light gray enclosure - came out perfect. This is a good candidate for community release. It just needs a bit of model polishing to make assembly easier, and it will be ready to go.

All of these prints were made possible thanks to my Patrons and project website supporters. Please consider joining Patreon and becoming a direct supporter of the ongoing project development.

Over the weekend I have been working on improving 3D printing quality of the case. Trying to come up with the best method which is a combination of several factors including filament material & support material combination, orientation during printing and designed in support for FDM printing.

I also printed case in a light gray I call "new falcon" gray. Gives more contrast between keyboard and the case, which may or may not be necessarily better vs standard gray I printed last week. But it's a matter of personal taste.

The goal is to get the model out there that will provide the best results in the limited homebrew environment.

This is 1040ST case model available at CGTrader, modified by me from ground up in software. Amazing tool for anyone.
