One way we look at Exponential Thinking is through the lens of science fiction. Picture a future world. Give it future problems. Now picture how the people living there solve those problems, using technology that hasn't been invented yet.

Most people build forward from what already exists. Exponential thinkers build backward from what the future demands, then go invent it.

That's the difference between leading technology and being led by it. Imagination sets the destination, and technology is how we get there.

Our community has practiced this directly, working with alumni, faculty, and experts to imagine radically different futures, including a full graphic novel born out of one of these sessions. The habit of imagining is the first step.

What future are you building backward from?

What happens when your biggest donor doesn't have a pulse?
Singularity University faculty member Anne Connelly says that question stops being hypothetical within five years.

Anne is a blockchain expert who spent years with Doctors Without Borders in Central Africa, and her latest piece argues AI agents will start holding and allocating real money by 2030. Most charities aren't built for a donor that can't be moved by a story.

She breaks down what it actually takes to become fundable to something that runs on data instead of emotion: machine readable impact reporting, verifiable outcomes, and real crypto infrastructure.

Achieving exponential innovation and transformative change begins with embracing a new mindset, one that defies traditional linear thinking and dares to dream big, to think differently, and to relentlessly pursue progress. This journey, while rewarding, is seldom straightforward. It is marked by an iterative process of ideation, prototyping, testing, and refining—each new step building on the last, always guided by the principles of the D4X framework.

However, innovation doesn’t occur in isolation. It requires a supportive culture, one that champions experimentation, tolerates failure, and fosters a spirit of relentless curiosity. These are the principles that guide us at Singularity and that we are eager to share with you and your organization.

The D4X framework is not a linear process, but rather a cyclical journey of constant learning, evolution, and growth. It is a journey characterized by bold vision, strategic partnerships, and an unwavering commitment to driving transformational change. It’s a journey that demands patience and tenacity, but one that promises rewards that are nothing short of exponential.

Get the framework:

The guide includes key concepts such as the difference between linear and exponential thinking, the Three Horizons of Growth, and the 6D's of exponential technologies. It also provides practical activities and exercises to apply the D4X framework in real-world scenarios.

The AI infrastructure buildout is consuming energy at a pace that has governments, communities, and investors increasingly concerned. One team in Singapore is working on a fundamentally different kind of data center — one powered not by silicon chips, but by living human neurons.

NUS Medicine, data center operator DayOne, and Melbourne-based startup Cortical Labs just unveiled a biological data center prototype in Singapore. At its core is a rack of computing units housing living neurons grown from stem cells, mounted on microelectrode arrays that read and stimulate neural activity in real time. The system processes information the way a brain does, using a fraction of the energy required by conventional servers.

The prototype is the first independently operated biologically integrated server rack in the world. The partners plan to scale it into Singapore's first large-scale biological data center, and the first of its kind outside Australia.

The use cases they're targeting go beyond energy efficiency. The researchers believe biological computing could accelerate drug discovery, neurological disease research, humanoid robotics, and fraud detection, particularly in scenarios where data is sparse and conventional AI struggles to learn.

Whether living neurons can scale into a viable commercial computing platform is an open question. But the energy economics of AI infrastructure make this a question worth taking seriously.

Participating in a sprint orients the entire team and aims efforts at hitting clearly-defined goals. There are 5 sprint phases, typically done sequentially over 5 days following forming your sprint team. Try them with your team: https://hubs.li/Q04t0zPX0

Every good experiment starts with a curious inquiry.

Build a team inside your organization that has an experimental ethos, and make sure that each experiment, value proposition, and hypothesis are really thought through before you invest the time and energy to actually proceed.

It's not easy to "retrofit" your company with a "big experimental engine" later. I needs a cultural shift. You have to be in the mindset of constantly testing new ideas, new business models, new products, and new processes.

In business, as in life, standing still means death. The only way to succeed in business is to experiment and innovate constantly. Think of it as Darwinian evolution at hyperspeed. Hyper-growth and experimentation are very closely linked.
