They call saying they are Merchant Services billing for Non-PCI compliance.. this is not your Merchant account, it is a scam.

Inflation sucks! But knowledge is free on the internet. We all want to be better computer users, we just don’t make the time. I say if you took 20 minutes two or three times a week watching youtube tutorials about Windows 10/11 or Apples Mac OS you would be empowered and educated.

If you remember one or two things it was worth it. I’m not saying you go with the goal of being a super network engineer, but it would be nice to remember how to cut/copy/paste or use mark-up with photos.

Todays world is changing. We have to work together to make the very best of your time and computer usage.

We do not sell computers so when we say:
Personal computers should be replaced after 10-12 years
Business computers should be replaced after 8-10 years.

Don’t wait till the computer just dies, it costs more labor to gather and build all that information and software if the computer is not working.

A 8-10 year old computer is only worth $100-$200 at best if refurbished and working on Ebay.

If your computer is over 8 years old, consider purchasing a new or refurbished computer. I know no one likes learning setting up a new computer, passwords, software, email are all troublesome, but that is where Nerds comes in and does that for you.

We get positive and negative feedback when we ask the question “ How old is your computers?” Most people do not want to hear its not worth repairing. Even a simple battery replacement in a 10 year old computer costs $50 and we look for the computer on Ebay and see a working unit is $100.. 50% of the value.

You are worth it, you deserve a new ( or newer ) computer, don’t wait. I know inflation is making it difficult but it is better than making a money pit. Statistically if one thing breaks it will not take long before something else breaks soon after, and there is the money pit.

Todays computer industry is a “ you get what you pay for “, and Dell, HP, etc love people to buy $400-$500 computers because they have a short life span. 60% do not make it past 3 years. In 9 years that is $1,200.
The $800-1,000 computers have 80% make it 8-10 years.

Being educated saves you money in the long run.. don’t fall for their short term low price.

I haven’t been using Facebook but I found this youtube video explaining the new email scams of moment. It is worth your time to be informed.

If it involves money, pick up the phone and call the company, use the support phone number printed on your bill or go directly to their web site ( not a google phone number ) to verify what the offer is.

- call phone numbers on web pages that make it sound like you are in trouble

- let someone in your computer ( ie go to this web page so I can see your desktop ) Remote control allows them to change everything.

- Give your credit card to repair your computer over the phone

- PAY FOR SERVICES WITH GIFT CARDS !!!! EVER ITS A SCAM

no calling phone number, no remote access, no credit cards, no gift cards..

Smarter than the Hackers

Windows Pop-ups are annoying at best, but the bad people use them to hack your computer. Always Click the X in the top right corner to close pop-up window.

while you see ' OK ' or ' Cancel ' .. that doesn't mean the bad people didn't change the buttons to ' Allow admin rights ' or something worse.

Back in 2019 I disclosed a novel way to spoof the Windows registry
dialog warning box to display an attacker controlled message.
This spoofing flaw lets us spoof the "Are you sure you want to
continue?" warning message to instead read "Click Yes to abort" or
whatever else an attacker would like to display.

This flaw can potentially make users think they are canceling the
registry import when they are in fact importing it, as we can make the
registry security warning dialog box LIE to them as the warning
messages are now under an attacker's control.

Yes Mountain Home has limited computer repair options and Nerds is SWAMPED. We are using an appointment schedule and have a full schedule most of the time.

Windows 10 stripped of all the spyware and telemetry.

While you get your privacy, the windows updates security are a hands on management process.

In any case well worth the research and time to keep Microsoft out of your data.

Friday afternoon, without a appointment customer comes by with a common Windows 10 issue ( I give him credit for having the machine ) and makes the proclamation “ if its fast I’ll let you do it now.” Like I don’t have any other work.

Why is it everyone wants to wait till Friday afternoon to wrap up their issues.

A professional computer repair shop has a schedule, machines are worked in the order of arrival ( unless you would like to pay the expedite fee ) you can’t bring your car to a auto mechanic on Friday afternoon and expect it to be repaired.

Please have a little respect for your service industry, we provide a service, not servitude.

I know how cars and engines work, but I don’t work on my truck. I know electronics, but I don’t fix my air conditioner. I understand psychology, but I try not to analyze my family. With all that I pay professionals to do their job. They have the skills and knowledge to do the job without causing more problems. Computer repair is a lot like the items listed above. The more you click the repair costs increase..

The dentist doesn’t fix his computers, and I don’t Dremel my cavities to fill them with JB WELD. Stay in your lane, be the professional in your skill set

Companies getting paid to post 5 star reviews, how sad.

Fakespot.com is a product review validation site for amazon and others.

Don’t believe everything you read. I use Amazon and like the service, but after using fakespot i now know almost everything listed as “sponsored” has been doctored for positive reviews.

A good check is the companies web forum... go read some input from real customers and see what you are getting into..

Where does Facebook hide all these messages? I admit I do not check Facebook often enough, I admit I have ALL of the facebook notifications turned off, BUT I am amazed at all these messages I never saw. Where? I have no clue
