A small code can point to a bigger opportunity.
For 2026, HCPCS G0136 has been updated to cover a standardized, evidence-based assessment of physical activity and nutrition when performed during a Medicare Annual Wellness Visit.
The reimbursement may be modest — approximately $20 in the office setting under the national Medicare fee schedule — but the value is bigger than the dollar amount.
When used appropriately, G0136 can help practices:
✅ Identify lifestyle-related risks earlier
✅ Strengthen preventive care workflows
✅ Support chronic disease management
✅ Improve documentation around patient needs
✅ Capture reimbursement for work that may already be happening
The key is compliance. This should not be treated as an automatic add-on code. The documentation should support the assessment performed, the time spent, the clinical relevance, and how the results impacted the patient’s care plan.
At Sunrise Services, we help practices identify these types of revenue opportunities while keeping documentation, compliance, and workflow aligned.
With almost 30 years of medical billing experience, we know the details matter — and the small things can add up.
