There is an unprecedented amount of hacking going on in the digital world. Email, FB Messenger, Instagram DM’s, Text Messages, etc… etc… etc.

1. Do not open email, dm’s/pm’s text messages you don’t recognize

2. Do not click any links

3. (Hard one) DO NOT try to “help” someone requesting help via social media private/direct messaging even if it APPEARS to be a friend or family member without talking to them first. The hacker will steal your data and/or login info and lock you out if your account.

SCAM ALERT! SHARE!!

I worked with a customer recently and he mentioned he needed his printer looked at and though he’d call the manufacturer so he”googled” the number. He proceeded to call the first number on the list that said it was “SUPPORT” for that particular company.

When the “technician” answered the phone the customer explained the problem and the “technician” never asked for a serial number to check on warranty or anything else that any other manufacturer support personnel would normally do. That was the first RED FLAG.

Next, he asked the customer to go to a website link in order for him to see the problem first hand. This link would allow the “technician” to take full charge and control the computer with the “printer problem” directly. That was the second RED FLAG.

At this point the customer thinks he’s working with someone legitimately working for the printer company which is not the case.

The gentleman installed different programs to connect to the system at anytime and the computer needed to be completely wiped out and the data had to be saved in order to remove these “stealth” remote control programs.

When calling anyone regarding your computer problems and technical issues they will first ask for model and then SERIAL number. The only way they won’t ask for this info is if they don’t have access to it or you are paying for support. This companies, unfortunately, don’t normally offer support if it has been over a year since the date of purchase.

Beware and don’t get taken as you can compromise your own personal data and/or customers’ data if it’s accesible to the scammer.

Three more with the or fake callers with heavy accents.... beware as they are very good at making you think they're calling from these known companies, don't fall for it and share with your families. They'll con you into buying some service to remove a virus and will scare you enough for you to give them your credit card info or your checking account. They will call multiple times, do not give them to your computer. Surf safely and don't give your to any strangers.... , , and in and
