Took a drive this week out to Hastings, ND (population: 62) to paint the historic Hotel Hastings! It was built in 1908 and has spent the last decade undergoing some extensive restoration thanks to the Pieper family.
From our best guess, the sign was painted shorty after it opened. By 1914 (the only picture we have) they had cut a new window through the sign! Working off the picture we drew the lettering as close as we could to the original, and bumped it down to avoid the βnewβ window. The siding is the original 100+ year old cedar planks.
Love doing this type of work! Some interesting history and a small piece of the state not many get to see.
