AI is making phishing scams more convincing than ever: personalized hooks, deepfake phone calls and videos that are hard to tell from the real thing. For Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Jamf CISO Mario Villatoro explains why that calls for a new approach to training, plus a look at Jamf’s own security practices, including how Jamf Threat Labs’ research and intelligence informs our offerings and protects Jamf as a company.

Good news for England’s schools: cyberattack recovery times are improving. But there’s still a gap in who’s responsible for keeping schools secure in the first place.

Jamf's Mat Pullen shared his take with The Register: “Cyberattacks have closed schools for a week or longer in the past, further disrupting an education already hit by Covid and affecting the wider economy as parents take time off work. Ultimately, cybersecurity is a shared responsibility of IT, teachers and senior leadership, and breaking down these silos keeps technology secure and lessons running.”

Would you notice if spyware were running on your work phone?

Commercial spyware can look entirely legitimate and collect messages, credentials and location data with no visible sign of infection. Malwarebytes recorded a 147% increase in Android spyware detections in the first half of 2025, so this is no longer just a high-profile target problem.

Our latest blog covers the types of spyware, how it gets onto devices, warning signs like battery drain, overheating and unexpected data usage, and what IT teams can do to protect their mobile fleet.

Commercial spyware like Pegasus and FlexiSPY can silently compromise mobile devices. Learn how it works, who it targets and how to defend your fleet.

Knowing where AI exists is the first step to governing it. Most boards don't have that visibility yet.

In this article for Resilience Forward, Jamf VP of Portfolio Strategy, Michael Covington, breaks down why AI governance keeps failing the same way SaaS and cloud governance did: teams write policy before they have visibility into what's actually running.

His take: "A periodic review will always be chasing a moving target; only continuous visibility keeps pace with it. Get that right, and governance stops being a bottleneck and starts being useful. Technology leaders can actually assess where AI is creating value."

The instinct among leadership teams has been to move fast on policy. Having documented policies on AI implementation and usage is great, however, it fails to address the main problem associated with the technology...

Giving back is part of who we are at Jamf. At JNUC this year, 11% of attendees skipped the swag and donated its value instead.

Together, that funded:
🍽️ 2,400+ meals for Kansas City families
🎓 At least one full year of education for a girl in Zimbabwe
💬 100 Mac Admins Slack memberships for a year
🌱 Climate and sustainability programs

We also assembled 500 STEAM kits for Kansas City Public Schools elementary students at the JNUC registration desk. The KC School Board and our friends at Happy Hope Foundation showed us where the gaps were, so the kits meet real needs.

Thank you to everyone who made this happen!

Reminder, Brno: our new office is throwing an open house, and you're invited!
RSVP: https://okt.to/PU1F9u

On October 14, swing by BC Titanium for an evening built for software builders, data pros, and anyone still curious about where an engineering career could go.

Here's who you'll hear from:
→ Filip Nguyen on making sense of exploitation indicators with AI
→ Matěj Kubiš on how AI is changing engineering
→ Tomas Nespechal on what's next for Jamf

Ask them anything, grab a coffee, and don't skip the terrace. The view over Brno is worth the trip up.

The threat landscape doesn't take a break, and neither does Jamf Threat Labs.

This Cybersecurity Awareness Month, see what their researchers are tracking right now: spyware that hides its own microphone and camera use, and AI agents that can turn into insider threats without the right oversight.
