The Printing Press Changed How We Spell.

Before printing became widespread, spelling varied considerably between writers, scribes, and regions. The same word could appear in different forms-even within the same document.

When William Caxton established England's first printing press in Westminster in 1476, he often had to choose between competing regional word forms. In a famous example, he described confusion between the Kentish word "eyren" and the London form "egges" for what we now call "eggs." His work helped spread the London-based written standard that became increasingly influential.

Over time printing, education, dictionaries, and changing cultural conventions all helped standardize written English. The result? More consistency in how words were spelled and written.

Printing didn’t single-handedly standardize English spelling and grammar, but it helped make written conventions more consistent. Today, print still carries the tradition of accuracy and permanence.

Ever notice that a color on your screen doesn't always look the same when it's printed?

That's because screens use RGB colors, while professional printing uses CMYK. The difference can sometimes lead to unexpected color shifts from screen to paper.

💡 Quick tip: If you're creating something that will be printed, start your file in CMYK whenever possible.

💚 🧡 Empowering the Next Generation of Rondo Entrepreneurs ✨

We wanted to add our congratulations to the grand opening of the Rondo Exchange on Selby Avenue! This new retail and business incubator, led by the Rondo Community Land Trust, is a vital step toward fostering community wealth and stability in the historic Rondo neighborhood.

At Minuteman Press Uptown, our mission is to partner with organizations that are strengthening our communities. We had the privilege of working on the exterior signage project for this historic space, helping four new businesses - Kp Inspires, BriiNoir, Mind the Crown, and BLovely Production / Lamae Photography- make their mark on the neighborhood.

Seeing over 150 people show up to support these entrepreneurs and generate $5,000 in sales on day one is a testament to the power of community!

Congratulations to Mikeya Griffin and the entire Rondo Community Land Trust team on this successful launch. We look forward to seeing the impact of this incubator on St. Paul’s creative economy!
