Lots of animal tracks in my driveway today yeehaa. Squirrel, house cat and some kind of canine...maybe a dog, although we don't have a lot of dogs in the neighborhood. I like to pretend it's Coyote track. We do have coyotes in the neighborhood, so it could happen. Lol

Today I took a short drive in the countryside to the Crow Hassan Park Reserve. It's a great area for hiking. On the way home I swung by the river and found a bunch of swans! The Mississippi River is on the right, flowing from top to bottom and the Crow River is coming in from the left.

A lot of time when I'm outside, I'm pretty much still in my head. I forget to look around. I forget to listen. I forget to just be there!

Yesterday I had a cool experience. I had gone to Target to get some groceries and was taking bags out of the car and to the steps by the back door.

In my head I thought "hey, there's a chickadee." Then I thought "HEY, THERE'S A CHICKADEE"...like I actually noticed it without having the intention to hear something!

I wasn't intentionally listening, but I heard it! The chickadee wasn't in my backyard, but was over in some neighbor's backyard. It was behind me. I was pretty excited that I had my animal ears on! LOL

Did some eagle chasing today! I was driving home, went by the river (Mississippi River) and saw an eagle soaring over the river.

I pulled over immediately, but it moved on, and moved on again. Finally, caught up with it at the end of the island, where it was observing its territory from below it's nest.

I got out to watch it a bit, but it wasn't moving...so I snapped a couple pictures. The pic on the left, you can see the eagle to the left and a bit below the nest.

I drove around a bit to see if i could get a better angle, or maybe he would fly again. I got the shot on the right with the eagle in front of the nest...you can see the white spot at the bottom of the nest. That would be the eagles head. Fun day!

Now that i'm home and writing about this, i realize that ALL my other nature observation techniques went out the window! hahahahaha i was so excited to see the eagle. I don't know if there were any other birds around, i suspect there weren't. I didn't stop to listen to what else i could hear. good lesson.

I did notice that the river has not yet frozen over...but it is getting a little ice chunky.
