Here's the latest 3D print work. My Lockheed son designed a prototype fitting for a paintball gun ammunition loader and asked me to print it for testing. Two prints are shown. The left print still has the external and internal structural supports. These have been removed from the right print. Print time: 166 min.; material cost: $1.36.

Okay, it's been a while. Ever seen a completed landfill in hand-specimen size? This print was done for an engineering company as a possible handout in a presentation to win more landfill work. Landfills (like this one) typically are big and relatively flat so had to do a 5:1 vertical exaggeration. This model sits on its raft which is removed after the model is taken off the build platform. I know...pretty dull stuff. So, anyone want a bust of themselves like Daron's? I'd like to prepare another one to practice my photo-to-object skills so it's free, if you have the strength and courage to see yourself in the form of one of these. After we show it off in your Sunday School class, it's yours! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

BTW - a complimentary tool to the desktop 3D printer is the desktop CNC machine (basically a carving machine for the non-machinists of the group :-)).

Chuck Dwiggins and I have been discussing CNC desktop technology for creating stuff that is not suitable for the desktop 3D printer (with his hand-crafted wood gator puppet creation as the proposed "guinea pig"). The complimentary tool to the 3D printer for the hobbyist that can used to "create" his gator puppet out of wood (or other material that can be carved) is the desktop CNC machine. In this case, a ShopBot Desktop. For those interested, take a look at:

http://www.shopbottools.com/mProducts/desktop.htm

A fully decked-out ShopBot Desktop allows one to "trace" an existing object into the ShopBot's memory, then load up a blank piece of new material (wood, plastic, Styrofoam?, etc) and carve out the object automatically. It'll also carve out just about any small object a designer can draw into an electronic file - all in the space of a desktop! That also means we can carve Daron out of wood from the electronic file I created for the 3D print we did in plastic (how 'bout some exotic stuff - East Indian Rosewood comes to mind). Makes a hobbyist go hmmm...

ShopBot Desktop - Our small-footprint CNC digital fabrication tool is built to perform like a big tool, built to be flexible, and built to last.

Per the post on my copywriting page, the Daron 3D print is done and the "movie" of said print is here. Enjoy!

For those who go to www.clearthink.us and have an interest in getting their own "mug" or someone else's done like Daron's, a free OOTA awaits the first person who asks! This is no small offer on my part! The total time I invest directly in the effort is about 4 hours and then there's the 5-7 hours of print time to create the "mug shot." In spite of this, I doubt anyone will take me up on this offer because everyone seems to be bashful (except Daron). I've thought of doing one of me but selfies aren't possible. Besides, like you, who wants to see a bust of me? :-)

Okay, here's me, the creator of OOTA Creations. Impressive, huh?
OOTA Creations now has its own page, which you are viewing: www.facebook.com/OOTAcreations.

Next up for OOTA Creations is the "portrait" of Daron Westly shown below that was created on December 28, 2014 from 58 photographs of the handsome guy taken in my backyard in Milton, Florida. (The "yard" was not printed; only the Daron part.)

You can read more about OOTA at www.clearthink.us.

I too can use up your valuable time via social media! So, don't go to clearthink.us unless you have even more valuable time to use up! If you go there, just open the OOTA menu item, unless you have more valuable time to use up. If you open another menu item, I suggest you open the blog and win an OOTA! No one has taken me up on that offer yet, not even the original winner.

Here are a selection of 3-d creations for your viewing pleasure! These are shown on the MakerBot Replicator 2 build platform.

The soldier can be seen in person at the War Memorial Park in Milton, Florida. It was created from approximately 70 photographs of the soldier. The Mustang is a copy of a hand-sized marble carving, also created from photographs of the Mustang.

The key ring tag referencing Hebrews 10:26 was designed and printed from scratch. The doggie w/camera is Friend of a Friend's pet photography's logo converted from a jpeg 2-d image. The spider is a print from another designer's electronic 3-d file; and the plain oblong "container" was designed and printed from scratch to serve as a Plaster-of-Paris mold to collect casts of animal footprints.

Once a 3-d image is placed on the MakerBot platform, it can be re-sized up to the dimensions of the wire-frame box that is shown.
