🌧️ SHOP CLOSED TODAY – SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 🌧️

Due to the Nor’easter currently hitting our area, Sound Shift Audio will be closed today and I’ll be working from home.

With the heavy rain, high winds, and coastal flooding concerns around Milford, I’d rather play it safe and keep everyone off the roads unless they absolutely need to be out.

I’ll still be available throughout the day by text, Facebook, email, and Messenger, so if you have questions about a build, need a quote, want to go over an upcoming appointment, or just want to talk car audio, feel free to reach out. I’ll be working behind the scenes from home.

For anyone in the Milford/coastal Connecticut area, please be careful today—especially around low-lying and flood-prone roads.

Today I had the honor of installing a Focal P60 Limited Edition kit into this 2021 Porsche Taycan.

For anyone who doesn’t know what the P60 is, this isn’t just another Focal speaker kit. This is Utopia, Focal’s highest tier of car audio, including their Beryllium tweeters.

What makes this kit even cooler is that Focal only made 911 of them, because the kit was originally designed specifically for the Porsche 911. They were only produced for a short period of time, every set was individually numbered, and once they were gone, they were gone.

The kit I got my hands on?

#595 of 911.

I’ve installed a lot of Focal over the years, but getting the chance to work with something this rare was definitely special. And putting it into a Porsche Taycan made it that much cooler.

Not something I get to say every day.

This Saturday, I get to work with something very special—the Focal P60 Limited Edition.

The P60 was created specifically for the Porsche 911 and brings Focal’s flagship Utopia technology into a direct-fit speaker package. It includes two 8-inch woofers, three midranges and a pair of pure beryllium tweeters, all designed to install in the factory locations without changing the Porsche interior.

Only 911 of these kits were handcrafted in France. Every set is individually numbered, with the serial number engraved into the speakers and a hand-stamped aluminum certification plate included with the system.

What does it bring to the table? More detail, cleaner vocals, a wider soundstage and stronger, more controlled bass—all while keeping the car looking completely factory.

The experience goes beyond the installation, too. Focal recognizes each P60 owner and arranges for the car to be featured in a Porsche publication.

I’m excited to install this one on Saturday and document the entire process. This isn’t something you get to see every day.

“My buddy can do it cheaper.”

Sometimes that works out. Sometimes… you end up paying twice.

This GMC Denali came to me after the owner had his audio system installed somewhere else. When I pulled the back seat apart, I found that the amplifiers weren’t mounted to an amp rack—or really mounted at all. Sound treatment had basically been wrapped around the amplifiers to hold them against the back wall. No screws, no bolts, no board. Even the distribution block was being held in place instead of properly mounted.

The owner knew something wasn’t right and brought it to me to see what I could do.

I pulled everything out, built a proper amp rack, securely mounted the equipment, cleaned up the wiring, protected everything where needed, and put it back together in a way that can actually be serviced in the future.

I’m definitely not saying you can’t do your own work or have a friend help you. There are plenty of talented people out there who do great work. But when someone says, “That shop is too expensive. My buddy can do it cheaper,” this is sometimes the difference.

Professional installers do this every day, all day. You’re not just paying someone to connect a few wires. You’re paying for the experience to know how the equipment should be mounted, how the wiring should be protected and secured, and how to build something that’s safe, reliable, and serviceable.

I tried to help this customer out as much as I could on the labor because, unfortunately, he was already paying for the job a second time.

There’s a saying I always try to keep in mind:

Buy cheap, buy twice.

If you’ve spent good money on a car—or you simply own a vehicle you’ve become really attached to—it makes sense to protect it.
