Last night was a powerful reminder of why I’ve dedicated over 30 years to the recruiting industry.

I was at an after-hours networking event and got the chance to catch up with a former boss of mine—a remarkably successful CEO who is planning to retire in a few years. As I was congratulating her on her incredible career and well-deserved upcoming retirement, she shared something that completely took me aback.

She told me that her succession plan was already seamlessly in place because years ago, I recruited the person who will be taking over the company.

That candidate is now the company's President.

Shortly after, the President came over just to say thank you. She told me how that initial placement changed the entire trajectory of her life and career, and expressed how grateful she was.

As recruiters, we spend our days connecting talent with opportunity, always hoping we’re making a positive difference. But to hear firsthand, years down the line, how a single placement shaped a career and secured a company's future? Truly unforgettable.

Moments like last night make every single year in this business worth it.

It’s about navigating a high-speed collision between rapid AI integration, a shifting workforce demographic, and an economy where the most valuable currency is no longer experience—it’s adaptability. If you're looking to stay ahead, here are the core hiring challenges of 2026 and the strategic solutions to overcome them.

1: The Gen AI Resume Paradox
In 2026, every candidate has access to sophisticated AI agents that can polish resumes to perfection and generate interview responses in real-time. The traditional resume has become a "perfect" document that tells you very little about a candidate’s actual capability.
The Solution: Surgical Skills-Based Assessment. Move away from credential-heavy screening. Instead, implement "Work Sample" auditions or live, proctored skills challenges. Use AI-proof assessment techniques, like asking candidates to solve a problem based on a unique, internal company scenario that a public LLM wouldn't have data on.
