π From Linguistics to Front-End Development: A Journey of Passion and Growth.
We're excited to share an inspiring interview with one of our talented Front-End Developers - Julia! π Starting her career with a degree in linguistics and a role as an HR assistant, she discovered her true passion for coding and technology. πβ¨
1. Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got into front-end development?
I initially earned a linguistics degree and started working in HR. However, I quickly realized that HR wasnβt my true calling. I transitioned to a trainee PM role, where I taught myself computer science and programming to better understand the projects I was managing. My interest in coding grew, leading me to join the iOS team as both a developer and PM. Over time, I expanded my skills to include Angular and React, and now I primarily focus on front-end development.
2. Could you describe one of the most interesting projects youβve worked on?
One of the most interesting projects I worked on was a platform for setting up art social media workspaces. The project involved a variety of features, which helped me deepen my knowledge of different frameworks and tools. Our team had significant creative freedom, while another great aspect of this project was that, in addition to working on the iOS app, I also contributed to developing the web version of the app. This was my first experience in web development, which made it even more exciting.
3. What are some common challenges you face during front-end development?
One of the biggest challenges in front-end development is the vastness of the fieldβthereβs always more to learn, which can be overwhelming. Additionally, managing perfectionism is difficult; while striving for high-quality code is important, itβs also necessary to recognize when to stop refining and move forward. Balancing these pressures is crucial for maintaining both productivity and mental well-being.
4. Are there any resources (books, websites, courses) you would recommend to aspiring front-end developers?
For anyone interested in software development, I highly recommend Harvardβs CS50 course as a comprehensive introduction to computer science. For those focused on iOS development, Stanfordβs CS193p course is excellent for learning about the latest in Swift and iOS technology. Additionally, the WWDC sessions are a fantastic resource for staying up-to-date with new features from Apple.
