The holiday can bring stress all on its own. Your tech may be part of it
’Tis the season of thanksgiving. One thing I’m grateful for? You’ve kept me top of mind for your technology needs this year — I thank you for that.
DID YOU KNOW?
Digital devices can interfere with everything from sleep to creativity. Notifications surge now more than at other times of the year.
• Physically, screen time increases sleep deprivation, low energy, addiction, and obesity
• Psychologically, it reduces empathy and spurs aggression, impulsivity
• Children experience reduced empathy and frustration control, among other effects
What is digital wellbeing?
Digital wellbeing is a person’s relationship with technology. It relates to the impact that technology has on our emotional, mental and physical health, both from a positive and negative aspect.
6 tips for improved digital wellbeing
Source: hms.harvard.edu/news/screen-time-brain
1. Beware of digital media distractions. Half of all kids and three-quarters of parents feel the other is distracted when talking to each other.
2. Have regular sit-downs, screen-free meals with your children.
3. Put down your device. Be present with others. Observe the world around you. Let your mind wander.
4. Avoid blue light-emitting screen use before bedtime.
5. Play online games with your children rather than forbidding them. Learn how to play from them and, as you play, help them think about what they're seeing and doing on screen.
6. Help your children plan how to spend their time, focusing on important and favorite activities to avoid sliding into the screen abyss.
Set up your tech, so it doesn’t add to the stress
