This Month on the OITVOIP Blog: Scam-Proof Your Busy Season

Ever answer a call and get… silence? Or get a voicemail asking you to call back at a different number? Both are classic scam tactics, and they’re easier to outsmart than you’d think.

Our Core Services Engineer Jack Wagner and the support team shared their best tips (one involves just staying quiet for a second), plus the phone settings that keep robocalls out.

πŸ“Š Poll: What’s the most common VoIP security blind spot you find in client environments?

Some of the biggest security risks hide in plain sight. A default password here, a firmware update pushed to β€œnext week” (again) there.

VoIP Web Tip Wednesday: Change Your Voicemail PIN β€” The 2-Minute Security Fix

When did you last change your voicemail PIN?

Voicemail is an easy-to-forget backdoor into a phone system, and a fresh PIN is one of the quickest ways to keep unwanted visitors out. Any OITVOIP user can update their own in the Manager Portal in a couple of minutes, and Office Managers and above can reset one for their team.

Swipe through for the steps, just in time for Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

πŸ” Cybersecurity Awareness Month Kickoff: 3 Ways to Safeguard Your Phones

October's security spotlight usually lands on inboxes and laptops, but your phone system belongs there too. It's on the internet just like your email, so it needs safeguarding.

The good news for our partners and clients is that our Manager Portal already has the tools built in:

πŸ”‘ MFA on the Manager Portal β€” Logging in takes your password plus a 6-digit code from an authenticator app (Google Authenticator recommended). Turn it on under your name β†’ Profile β†’ Change Account Security.
πŸ“ž Auto Attendant β€” When added to the start of the call flow, it helps keep spam calls from reaching your end users.
🌎 Dial Permissions β€” Restrict dialing to US & Canada by default, and only allow international dialing when it's needed.

Keep your phones safe and your team talking!

You'll find guides for all three in our voipdocs, plus plenty of other helpful Hosted Voice guides: https://bit.ly/4yxezPD

The MSP VoIP Stack in 2027: What to Keep, What to Cut, What to Add

It's that time of year. Q4 budgets are getting finalized, and 2027 plans are taking shape. Before you lock in next year's spend, give your VoIP stack a proper review. A quick audit now means you head into 2027 with a stack that earns its place and delivers more for your clients.

Here's what OITVOIP recommends keeping, cutting, and adding along the way:

Keep: SIP trunking and UCaaS β€” Both are still growing, and hybrid work makes cloud calling something every team relies on. If it's working, let it keep working.

Cut: On-prem PBX and desk-phone-first setups β€” As more businesses move to cloud calling, these are often the heaviest legacy pieces left in a stack. Trimming them frees up margin.

Add: AI, security, and compliance β€” Transcription, call summaries, and smart routing are quickly becoming standard features, and regulated clients expect security and compliance from day one.

A leaner, more capable VoIP stack means better margins for you and a better experience for your clients. What's one thing you're keeping, cutting, or adding in 2027?

Accessible Design Is Just Good Design

Ever rolled a suitcase up a curb ramp? Then you've already benefited from accessible design.

Those ramps were originally made for wheelchair users, and now parents with strollers, cyclists, and delivery drivers rely on them everyday. Captions have a similar story. They started for deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers and now help all of us watch videos on mute without missing a word.

Design with more people in mind and the whole experience gets better for everyone.

This philosophy comes from our Creative Brand Strategist, Logan Luedike, who has a gift for creating thoughtful, people-first design. Her work is a big reason our brand shines, and her blog post this month lays out why accessibility belongs at the heart of every design.

You'll also find a few quick accessibility tests to try on your own brand (one involves unplugging your mouse). πŸ‘‡
