A new trend is arising in many households across the country and cutting cable has become one of them. With so many choices on how consumers can view television and movies we are not tied down to traditional overpriced cable subscription. Our household just recently cut the cord and are only streaming our content. One of the reasons for cutting the cord is because getting tied down to certain a time to watch a specific show was not feasible in our daily lives. As many Americans are working different schedules and not the traditional 9 to 5 which is slowly becoming obsolete as Corporate America has become a 24 hours a day 7 days a week operation. Companies like Netflix, Hulu, Sling box and even HBO with the HBO NOW subscription are understanding were the future is headed and its progressing in a different direction than cable companies are used to doing business. Yes they do compete with the streaming services but lack functionality with their development of the product.
This is a trend the music industry faced many years ago as the iPod changed the way we listened music. As for television devices like Apple tv, Google's chromecast, Amazon's fire TV and Roku are devices that are going to change the way we consume video content. The traditional way of watching television series and sitcoms have already changed as Netflix and Hulu are scooping up content and consumers can choose what we we watch and when we watch our favorite content. Consumers can subscribe to HBO and Showtime without a cable subscription which is awesome for those of us that cut the cord but not good for the cable companies. Netflix is already producing good quality shows on their own like House of Cards, Orange is the new black and even made a deal with Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Production to produce films for the streaming service. I see a future where we choose what channels we want to watch and are willing to pay for and not what the companies think we should watch.
he downside to cutting the cable is that video consumes more data through the Internet Service Providers infrastructure. ISP's are now charging customers who reach a maximum data usage of 300GB per month and a fee of $15.00 for additional 50GB of data until the month is over. Some companies are offering unlimited data for $30.00 dollars extra a month. That means internet prices can possibly go to about $100.00 to 125.00 dollars a month plus all the other subscription to the streaming companies. It is still cheaper to stream and one benefit is that we do not need to haggle with cable companies every time our contract ends and the real price of the service shows itself.
