Laptop Screen Replacement: When to Repair Your Screen and What to Expect
A cracked, flickering, or completely black laptop screen can make an otherwise perfectly good computer feel useless. The good news is that in many cases, you do not need to replace the entire laptop. A professional laptop screen replacement can often restore your computer and save you the cost of buying a new one.
At Recovering Computers, we help customers determine whether a damaged laptop display can be repaired or replaced and whether the repair makes financial sense.
Common Signs You Need a Laptop Screen Replacement
Not every screen problem looks the same. Some of the most common signs of a damaged laptop display include:
Cracked or shattered glass
Black spots or spreading dark areas
Colored vertical or horizontal lines
Flickering or flashing
A screen that is extremely dim
A display that only works when the laptop lid is positioned a certain way Ink-like blotches underneath the screen
Part of the display appearing distorted or completely black
A laptop that turns on but shows no picture
Sometimes the screen itself is damaged. Other times, the problem may be caused by a loose display cable, damaged hinge, graphics issue, motherboard problem, or backlight failure. Proper diagnosis is important before ordering replacement parts.
Can a Cracked Laptop Screen Be Repaired?
A physically cracked LCD or LED laptop screen normally cannot be repaired at the individual pixel or glass level. Instead, the damaged display panel is replaced.
For a newer laptop, gaming laptop, business laptop, MacBook, or higher-end model, screen replacement can often be significantly less expensive than replacing the entire computer.
