In September 2018, I saw the need for a better alternative to changing a baby when I couldn’t find any changing table in the restroom where we were having dinner.

Frustrated from not being able to change my 6-month old baby, I invented a unique baby changing device called the Chikiroo ("Cheeky Roo") Changing Pouch that parents can use to change their baby anywhere needed. 🎉

The Chikiroo Changing Pouch is a patent pending wearable baby changing station that offers a clean and safe surface for diaper changes anywhere you need. Simply put it on and change your baby right where you stand! No awkward bending or squatting down needed. This product was inspired by the mama kangaroo cleaning her joey in her pouch. 🦘

As parents and caregivers, we tend to settle for dirty public changing stations when out and about, and if none, nasty surfaces like the park bench, inside a hot car, or worse… nasty restroom floor. There must be a better way!

So I created a wearable baby changing station. Patent pending. First of its kind. 🤯

It has a 4-point safety harness for baby’s safety, a padded neck strap and thick waist belt for user comfort, and an easy to clean waterproof wipeable surface. It also comes with easily accessible pockets to store extra diapers and wipe. Once done, it folds up into a compact bag with convenient over-the-shoulder carry. Functional, portable and stylish 😌

Another sneak peek of my innovative wearable baby changing station design.

Apart from baby safety, the user's comfort is another important aspect of the product design. An adjustable padded neck strap and thick waist belt helps to ergonomically distribute the weight and reduces neck strain.

The baby is laying safely on a non-toxic and durable changing platform that adopts into a hammock-like shape to gently hug the baby's body. 👶 It can be folded into a compact bag once done!

Few years ago we went out for dinner and there were no changing stations inside the restaurant...😩

I had to precariously hold my baby to change her because I refused to place my precious baby on nasty surfaces inside the restroom. There has to be a better way!

A eureka moment struck me after we came home that night. 🤯

While I was in the shower, I started thinking…

✅ What if there’s a changing station that I can use to change my baby whenever and wherever I want without the need to place my baby on any nasty public surface?

✅ What if this thing is a WEARABLE baby changing device that is comfortable to use for both the parent and baby?

✅ What if I can easily fold up this device into a stylish-looking bag? So people won’t even know that it’s a portable changing station!

Wouldn’t that be something!?

Matt, my hubby said that I was onto something remarkable; it was like a breakthrough. So I poured hours after hours sketching the idea out, taking inspiration from various things, and eventually working with experts to hash out the details.

And guess what? I ended up inventing a new and innovative way to change a baby! 👶

I will be sharing a few product design sneak peeks leading up to the introduction of my new baby changing product.

Back in September 2018, when I couldn't find any public changing station to change my increasingly fussy baby inside a restaurant's restroom, I was left with a couple of undesirable options:

1. Change my baby on the wet sink. (But there was no clean space to change my baby safely!)
2. Change my baby on the dirty, gross bathroom floor. (Hell F-ing no! Yuck!)

My baby was 6 months old, with weak immunity; I refused to place my precious baby on those nasty surfaces! I did think of going outside in the Arizona heat and changing my baby inside my hot car. But that was pretty undesirable too.

Standing inside the restroom, stressing out, I did what I thought was best and changed my baby while holding her tight with one arm precariously. It was pretty challenging, so thank goodness it was only a wet diaper! It had to be done.

The entire experience left me stressed out and utterly frustrated. A bit traumatized, to be exact. There has to be a better way, am I right!?

Then one day, it happened---An idea born out of necessity turned me into an inventor.

It all began back in September 2018... We took our 6 month old (baby Adie) and 3 year old toddler (Sofi) out for dinner at a local restaurant. Our baby started fussing. The blue streak on her diaper was prominent. Matt and I usually took turns changing our babies. So when he came back to the table shaking his head, mouthing "no changing station," I knew it had to be me to do the deed. So I grabbed Adie from him, and we headed straight to the ladies' restroom.

To my horror, there was NO changing station inside the restroom!

"What the hell am I gonna do now!?" I thought to myself, holding Adie, who's incessantly bawling her eyes out by the minute.

My hubby Matt has always said that I'm the "crazy idea person," and that my head is always in the clouds.

You see, when I'm zoning out, usually my mind is locked onto an idea or something like that. I seriously can't help it! (Yes, I even have a log of "Siska's crazy ideas" stashed somewhere lol.)

I think that being a designer for the past 13 years has turned me into a problem-solver. I see common problems in our everyday lives, and I always ask myself, "why are we doing it this way?"

The problem is that we have become accustomed to the inconveniences in our lives. We choose to live with it. For example, the task of changing a baby in public. It can become quite the hassle that makes you want to forget about going outside of the house with your baby altogether! What if there's a better way?

Hey, friends! Sorry, I have been MIA. How’s everyone doing?

These couple of years have been challenging; no doubt about it. But for me, it came with a silver lining.

You see, for the past few years, I have been secretly working on a project in the baby space that would revolutionize the way we change our baby in public. It was on the back burner until the pandemic hit in 2020.

It was not until the beginning of the year 2021 that I decided to fully pivot and focus on this project because we truly believe that it will give families a safer and cleaner alternative to change their baby during a pandemic and beyond.
