This guy right here is a big part of my “why.” It’s hard to believe it’s been 9 years since my dad passed away.
His journey as an entrepreneur inspires me. He left a legacy of being an incredibly innovative problem solver. His methods were anything but conventional but they worked for him.
He was diagnosed with cancer in September of 2016. Just 5 weeks later, we said goodbye. During that time I spent hours at his house caring for him and his home, managing his whole world.
I had no idea just how much time it would take to take over his life, especially his digital life. I spent a lot of time ensuring that I knew every single password to every single account.
After he passed away I spent hours figuring out all of his subscriptions so that I could cancel them. It was exhausting and time consuming. At a time that I should have been grieving his loss I was spending hours on the phone with CenturyLink trying to cancel his account.
Looking back I wish I had taken time to make sure everything was sorted out before he was sick. This is a big motivation in the work I do today. It’s nice to know my clients will be able to use the systems we have in place to pass on their digital legacy more easily. Does it still take time? Yes. But will it be a part time job? No!
I miss you every day, Gordo. It’s devastating to be raising these two little boys without you. ❤️
