⚠️ WARNING: Fake “Microsoft Trojan Alerts” Are Targeting Local Users
We’re seeing a rise in Trojan fake alerts—pop ups or browser messages pretending to be Microsoft security warnings. These are scams, not real infections.
What these scams do
• Show a fake Microsoft security screen
• Claim your computer is “infected” or “blocked”
• Display a fake 800 number to call
• Ask for your email address, password, or verification code
• Try to make you panic so you’ll hand over access
Important facts
• Microsoft will NEVER call you about a virus.
• Microsoft will NEVER ask for your email password.
• Real Microsoft authentication pages never appear inside a browser pop up or ad.
• Fake alerts often copy the exact look of Microsoft’s sign in screen, but they are just images designed to trick you.
If you see one of these alerts
• Do NOT call the number
• Do NOT give any information
• Close the browser tab immediately
• Restart your computer if the pop up won’t close
• Call BTG if you’re unsure – don’t worry it is always better to be safe than sorry.
Why scammers do this
These fake alerts are designed to steal:
• Your Microsoft 365 login
• Your email account
• Your banking information
• Remote access to your computer
Once they have access, they can reset passwords, steal data, or lock you out of your own accounts.
Stay safe
If something looks suspicious, stop and verify. When in doubt, contact a legitimate support provider—not the number on the screen.
