Recognizing scams are a powerful deterrent to cyber breaches. In fact, many cyber attacks aren’t due to technical security but rather through manipulation & social engineering.
Below is an example of one that MCI Group regularly receives; and I’ll outline how to identify that it’s a sham. For their privacy, I will cross out the name as it is probably a stolen account.
Notice how this individual is attempting to scare us with urgency and an identity theft claim? The more worked up we become, the more likely we will comply. Try and stay calm; verify the claim, and act last.
