Who We Show Up For: Brevard Zoo

It is a privilege to partner with an organization that brings so much heart to its work. There is always something amazing happening at Brevard Zoo, and we love seeing the incredible ways their team cares for animals, protects wildlife, and makes our community a better place.

Recently, sea turtles Falafel and Julian returned to the ocean after completing treatment at the Zoo’s Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Center. And if you follow their social media, you’ve probably seen some other memorable moments, from a jaguar enjoying a giant ball of yarn and bears cooling off with snow cones to a new baby giraffe and adorable baby kangaroo Jolene!

But behind those smiles is some seriously important work. Brevard Zoo’s conservation programs include sea turtle, black bear, and manatee rehabilitation; conservation breeding programs for Florida grasshopper sparrows and beach mice; shorebird monitoring; FrogWatch USA; and Restore Our Shores, which helps restore the Indian River Lagoon. Their work combines hands-on wildlife care, research, and community involvement to help protect the natural world we all share.

Want to be part of the good they do? Keep an eye out for volunteer opportunities, including ways to help restore our local waterways.

And there’s plenty of seasonal fun happening, too! Boo at the Zoo & Beware the Night run through October 31, and the Haunted Harvest Brunch takes place October 25. It’s a great time to plan a visit and make some fall memories!

Some moments make you stop and appreciate how far you've come together.

Last week, our CEO Travis Proctor attended Good Morning Space Coast with the Space Coast Chamber of Commerce, and was honored with a certificate celebrating 30 years of partnership with Artemis IT.

Thirty years! We are so grateful. The Chamber has been part of our story since the early days, and being a member has connected us to the people, businesses and causes that make this community so special. Every handshake, every introduction and every conversation has helped us grow right alongside the Space Coast. Thank you for welcoming us, supporting us and believing in us for three decades.

The discussion was about protecting the Indian River Lagoon, a natural treasure that all of us in Brevard care about. Local leaders talked about what motivates us to protect it, the challenges still standing in the way, and the restoration progress already underway. Saving the Lagoon is a long-term effort that takes collaboration, commitment and patience, but it is absolutely worth it. When this community comes together, great things happen.

Here's to the next 30 years, Space Coast. We're just getting started.
