TECH TIP TUESDAY!!!

Did you know that the average American spends 7 hours per day looking at their computer and another 2 hours on their phone? Blinking drops from 15-20 blinks per minute to 3-7 blinks when using a digital device. This can lead to severe dry eye.

Here are a few helpful tips to help those important eyes of ours:

Follow the 20-20-20 Rule - Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
Adjust your monitor height - Screens should be at eye level and at an arm's length away.
Increase the text size if you feel yourself squinting.
Enable blue light filters in the evening.

Spend more time taking care of your eyes. It's the only pair you get!

Unsubscribing - Good or Bad?

We all get a ton of marketing or SPAM emails where at the bottom they give you the option to unsubscribe to their mailing list. So does it really help to do that or could that put you on more lists?

A legitimate business complying with the laws must honor your unsubscribe request within a certain timeframe, and you should be removed from that list.
Where it gets a little dicey is from other businesses that aren't as reputable.

Data sharing - Some companies share your information with "affiliates" or "partners" before removing you, meaning you may get added to related lists.
Signal value - Clicking "unsubscribe" can sometimes confirm your email is active, making it more valuable to other marketers.
Dark patterns - Some unsubscribe pages intentionally make it harder to fully opt out, offering "fewer emails" instead.
List reselling - Less reputable list owners may ignore unsubscribe requests or sell your address.

So if you don't want to click unsubscribe in fear of getting on other lists, what can you do?

Mark as spam — This trains your email provider to filter future emails from that sender.
Use a separate email — A dedicated address for newsletters and signups keeps your main inbox cleaner.
Automatic filters — Many email clients can automatically archive or delete marketing emails.

If all else fails, you can always report them to the FTC by filling out a complaint form right on their website.

TECH TIP TUESDAY!!!

Phishing emails are designed to trick you—but they all follow the same playbook. Remember the 4 P's:

Pretend – The sender pretends to be someone you trust (your boss, IT, your bank, a vendor like Microsoft)
Problem – They create a fake problem ("Your account has been compromised," "Suspicious activity detected")
Pressure – They pressure you to act fast without thinking ("Reply within 24 hours" or "Immediate action required")
Pay – The goal is to get you to "pay" with money, passwords, sensitive data, or a click on a malicious link.

The bottom line: If an email hits all four marks, stop and verify. Contact the supposed sender through a known, trusted channel—don't reply to the email.

Stay Safe!

TECH TIP TUESDAY!!!

Browser extensions can be helpful, but too many installed can also cause problems to your PC. Consider only using 1 or 2 to cut down on any performance issues your device may have, or make sure they are reputable. Some manufacturers will sneak an extension on to track your movements too.

Extensions that protect your privacy or block ads sometimes use many resources on your device, and for each tab you have opened, that creates multiple instances of each browser extension, using more resources.

If you haven't checked them in a while, take a few moments to review them and make sure only the ones you need are still running.

Chrome - Click on the thee vertical dots and select extensions, manage.
Edge - Click on the three horizontal dots and select extensions, manage.

Anything in there you don't recognize or need anymore, go ahead and remove them. We recommend rebooting your device to make sure all files are properly removed as well.

TECH TIP TUESDAY!!!

Spring is a great time to declutter your home — but don't forget your devices! Just like a garage full of old junk, your PC, phone, and tablet can slow down when they're packed with things you no longer need. Here's a quick checklist to freshen things up:

On Your Windows PC:
Uninstall unused programs — Remove anything you haven't used in over 6 months.
Clear out your Downloads folder — It's often one of the biggest hidden storage hogs.
Remove old browser extensions — Extra toolbars and add-ons you forgot about can slow your browser and create security risks.

On Your Smartphone (iPhone or Android):
Delete apps you haven't opened in 6+ months — If you can't remember what it does, you don't need it.
Review app permissions — Check which apps have access to your camera, microphone, location, and contacts. Revoke anything that doesn't need it.
Clear cached data — Offloading unused apps frees up space automatically.

A Security Reminder:
Old, unused software is a security risk. Outdated apps that are no longer updated by their developers can have unpatched vulnerabilities — even if you never open them. When in doubt, remove it.

Keep your devices clean and they will thank you by performing well all the time!
