THEY WANT TO SHUT US DOWN Melissa’s Pet Services due to ZONING!
**I’m asking for your help to keep Melissa’s Pet Services open for business.
I’ve been running this business for over 5 years now, and most of the time I’ve been open, the City of McAllen has been trying to shut me down by putting up roadblocks to prevent me from obtaining a city permit with no legitimate reason. I was forced out of my first location by Code Enforcement citing me thousands of dollars in tickets for failure to obtain a permit while at the same time contesting my request for one. I think it’s fair to say I was assured that if I moved to my current location, I would qualify for a conditional use permit. I’ve spent thousands of dollars to comply with all the city regulations, and have done everything they have asked of me.
When my permit went before the Zoning Board last week, They disapproved a permit citing no reasonable cause. The Zoning Board seems more interested in putting people out of a job, and in our case a livelihood, than they do with legitimate zoning concerns that go unaddressed all over the city. There is even a pet kennel one street over, with the same zoning classification as ours, and amongst a subdivision, and they are allowed to run their business but apparently we can’t.
I have one final chance to get approved for a permit when my request goes before the City Commission on JUNE 22, 2020. If you could sign my petition for us to stay open and take care of your fur babies, you would be supporting jobs and tax receipts for local individuals. At a time when the COVID outbreak has stretched the system to the breaking point with m unemployment, if we were shut down it is very likely that my staff and I would be left jobless and for me possibly homeless. This would
also leave my human and canine clients without the compassionate, cage-free pet care we provide that many rely on. Even people without a need for my services should be able to clearly see that closing down any small business,least a successful, lawful and established business with a stellar reputation in the community is not advantageous to the City of Mcallen in anyway and should not be allowed! . This is especially true right now that many small businesses are struggling to keep their doors open already.
Please stand with me in opposition of the closing of Melissa’s Pet Services. You’d be more than welcome to attend the City Commisioner’s meeting- in person or through ZOOM- if you were able to. We’d like a physical presence and also need some people that will speak on our behalf. If you arent able to join us, please sign my petition in support of the City of McAllen granting a conditional use permit for Melissa’s Pet Services in it’s current location.
