First frost usually lands in the second half of October around here, and that is when the ceiling fan goes to its winter setting. Dust it first. Flip it first and you spin a summer of dust across the room.

1. Turn it off and let it stop completely.
2. Run a damp cloth along the top of each blade. The top is where it all sits.
3. Then switch it to clockwise on low. It pushes the warm air down off the ceiling.

1. Put on a rubber glove, dampen it, drag your hand across the upholstery. The hair rolls into a rope you can pick up.
2. A window squeegee dragged across carpet pulls up hair the vacuum rode straight over.
3. A dryer sheet along the baseboards. The static that holds the hair there is the same static the sheet kills.

2. You do not need to be there. Entry, alarm, parking, pet and lock-up instructions can all be given in advance, which matters on a day you are already driving somewhere else.
