Audio/Video Technician (Multiple Levels: Entry to Experienced)

Job description: What You’ll Do

Depending on your experience, you’ll enter as a Tech 1 (Apprentice), Tech 2, or Tech 3 (Lead Tech). All roles involve installing, servicing, and supporting AV, conferencing, and network systems in:
-Houses of Worship
-Schools and Universities
-Retail and corporate environments
-Performance venues

Position Breakdown
*Tech 1 – Technician Apprentice (Entry Level)
-Build AV racks and install equipment (under supervision or independently)
-Stock and maintain van, tools, and shared parts
-Read and follow drawings, blueprints, and instructions
-Assist with cabling, troubleshooting, and project setup
-Handle service calls for basic systems and equipment
-Use digital tools for documentation and reporting
-Able to utilize a variety of digital tools for documentation

*Tech 2 – Intermediate Technician
-All Tech 1 responsibilities
-Take lead on smaller projects or specific system types
-Troubleshoot and test moderately complex systems
-Complete most service calls independently
-Occasionally lead install crews on larger projects
-Source support documents like manuals and client history

*Tech 3 – Lead Technician
-All Tech 2 responsibilities
-Independently lead projects of all types and sizes
-Handle the most complex installations and service calls
-Mentor and train junior team members
-Offer input to improve systems and internal processes
-Ensure high-quality documentation and communication

What We’re Looking For: We don’t expect you to know everything on day one—but you should bring a strong willingness to learn and grow.

Ideal Traits & Skills:
-Must be punctual, detail-oriented, adaptable and accountable
-Basic Computer knowledge
-Basic networking knowledge
-Comfortable with hand tools, test equipment, and cable assembly
-Able to read/follow instructions, blueprints, and technical manuals
-Strong communicator with a team-first attitude
-Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work from ladders/lifts when needed
-Willing to work in a variety of spaces—churches, schools, retail, offices, and homes
-Open to feedback, with a desire to improve and grow

*The Fine Print:
-Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM with available overtime
-REQUIRED - Occasional Travel: Some projects require out-of-town work for up to a week (Mon–Fri, back on or by Friday)
-On-Call: Rotating weekend schedule
-MUST HAVE - Driver’s License with clean driving record and able to pass a background check
-DB Acoustics provides Technician's tools, work cell phone, work laptop and eventually a work van.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week

DB Acoustics is thrilled to have been chosen to install a new audio system for the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville. Designing and engineering this space was a significant challenge, as it is a historical site that required particular attention during installation. Our dedicated installation team worked diligently for approximately three weeks to ensure the new system was operational in time for the holiday season. Final tuning and calibration were completed on Friday, December 20th, allowing for weekend services just before Christmas.

The system has performed exceptionally well, receiving glowing feedback from all who attended the services. Only a few minor finishing touches were needed, and they have now been completed.

The DB Acoustics team would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the selection committee and Father Chris for their trust and confidence in our company!

During Davis County Middle School's Christmas Break we installed their Gymnasium Video & Sound System. This system will allow audio and video presentation for all school functions.

Just before Christmas we were able to install SS Peter and Paul Lutheran Church in Monticello new sound system for a better worship experience. We are looking to hire individual(s) into our company in the position of Audio-Visual Technician(s). This individual(s) needs to be highly motivated, possess a positive attitude, show a willingness to learn new skills, and provide fast and efficient service to our customers.

Responsibilities to include:
Installation of Audio/Visual systems and components
Servicing existing Audio/Visual systems
Learning and maintaining an understanding of industry best practices
Interacting directly with customers

Required Work Experience: None, but a general understanding of audio, video, electronics, and construction practices is preferred

Expected Skills:
Ability to operate both hand and some powered tools
Ability to work off of ladders, scaffold, powered man lifts, at heights in excess of 50ft.
Ability to lift at least 50lbs. multiple times during a work day
General math skills with some algebra and geometry understanding
Ability to work as part of a team and eventually as an individual
Education:

High School Diploma or GED
The applicant will also be required to show a valid drivers license in the State of Iowa, be subject to a drug test and background check, and pass the requirements to be insured as a driver of company owned vehicles.

This position is for full time work, Monday-Friday from 7:30am to 4pm and rotating on-call, however, those hours can change depending on the requirements of the job. Some travel with overnight stays are to be expected.

A huge thanks to Grinnell College for our latest room correction to two classrooms. We installed some Cloud-Lite Acoustic Baffles to correct a couple difficult rooms in the CERA building. Now it will be much easier for the teachers to communicate with the students.

Once again a huge thank you to the folks at Atlantic High School for their trust In DB Acoustics. We recently designed and installed a new sound reinforcement system for their main performance gym.
This was our third large project for the district and was a bit of a challenge. They wanted something to impact the crowds with lots of dynamics. This system will do just that complete with wireless music streaming and four dual subwoofers. We hope you all enjoy your new system!

DB Acoustics would like to offer a huge thank you to our friends at Trinity Episcopal Church in Muscatine! We recently installed a new audio system and video recording and streaming system. This church was one of the first west of the Mississippi and was a very cool historic building and we were very honored to work in such a space.
