he milestone follows a rapid ascent for the app. On August 31, 2026, MapQuest announced it had reached the No. 1 Navigation app ranking and the No. 8 and No. 2 overall free app positions in the U.S. and Canada Apple App Stores, respectively. Driven by users embracing MapQuest’s decision to keep familiar historical names for lakes and gulfs on its maps, usage has increased over 50 times its normal rate and carried the app to the top position of the overall free charts in both countries.
