Hedy Lamarr was an actress and inventor. After moving to Hollywood, she gained fame as an actress, but society ignored her scientific mind. While in Hollywood, Lamarr began to work on inventions. During World War II, she invented a communication system, frequency hopping, with composer George Antheil to guide torpedoes. Although they were awarded a patent, the Navy rejected the invention, and Lamarr instead sold war bonds to support the war effort. Today, her frequency-hopping technology forms the basis for WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth communication systems.

Katherine Johnson was a brilliant mathematician who played a crucial role in the American space program. She started her career as a teacher and later joined NASA as a "human computer," helping solve complex mathematical problems.
