Zip Ties or Velcro? Which is the better way to attach networking cables?

Let’s dig deep into the impact that zip ties have on the performance of networking cable. Here I’ll use the DSX CableAnalyzer to analyze some Cat 6 cable that I zip tied to conduit.

Don’t use the channel Adapter and a patch cord when testing a permanent link with the DSX CableAnalyzer. Doing so could get your test results rejected. Be sure to use the permanent link adapter.

Here are a couple of handy tools from when working with active fiber connections. Not only does the FiberLert let you know if a fiber is active, you can use it to determine if the polarity is correct.

It is critical that our fiber end faces are clean before connecting them. Let’s see how the click cleaner does with just one click.

The IEEE tells us 10GBASE-T is limited to 55 meters over Cat 6. However, in one of my other videos I was able to run a throughput test over more than 90 meters with no loss. Here I’m testing the same cable with the DSX CableAnalyzer using the 10GBASE-T test limit and PoE limit.

While doing some cable testing I had a 295’ piece of Cat 6 laid out along a garden path. After taking a break to grab a cup of coffee I noticed the results had changed. Using the HDTDX analyzer I identified the location. When I went out there I found a rabbit had bit the cable. The bites have a 45 degree angle to them.
