Friendly Cybersecurity Reminder from your local G33K Doctors š
Spent today helping a small business clean up a network issue caused by an infected computer and an external attack on their network. Everything looked like it was running fine⦠but the router logs told a very different story ā repeated attempts to break in from the outside.
The good news: the attack was stopped, and the network was locked down.
The important lesson: just because things seem fine doesnāt mean everything is secure. The internet is very good at sneaking around quietly.
A few easy takeaways to keep in mind:
⢠If your router has āport forwardingā enabled, thatās basically leaving a side door unlocked.
⢠Old firmware and updates youāve been ignoring really do matter.
⢠āItās always worked fineā and āitās secureā are not the same sentence š
If you run a business, work from home, or just want to make sure your personal network is secure, itās worth giving your network a quick checkup once in a while. A little prevention now beats a big headache later.
Stay safe out there ā the internet is a wild and weird place. š„ø
