Security Alert: Protect Your Business from Tech Support Scams
We want to make sure all of our customers stay safe from a rising wave of fraudulent phone calls targeting local businesses.
Scammers are actively calling offices claiming to be technical support from major software and technology providers—including QuickBooks, Microsoft, Adobe, and various anti-virus companies.
How the Scam Works
• The Pitch: The caller claims there is an urgent issue, a critical security vulnerability, or an expiring license that needs immediate attention on your computer.
• The Trap: They ask for remote access to your PC under the guise of "fixing" the problem or applying an update.
• The Risk: Once granted access, they can compromise sensitive data, install malware, or hold your systems for ransom.
What You Should Do
1. Never grant remote access to anyone who calls you out of the blue, even if they name-drop software you use every day. Major tech companies like Microsoft and Intuit (QuickBooks) do not make unsolicited cold calls to troubleshoot or update individual computers.
2. Use Our Name: If you receive one of these calls, simply tell the caller:
"We have an IT company that handles all of our technical support and computer maintenance for us."
3. Hang Up: Do not engage in conversation, verify details, or follow any instructions to download remote-support tools (such as AnyDesk, TeamViewer, or Quick Assist).
