You clicked Send in New Outlook. Your customer says nothing arrived. Before assuming they overlooked it, get your IT team involved.

Users have reported Outlook messages appearing in Sent Items without reaching their recipients. But a report of missing email doesn’t establish a widespread New Outlook bug, and the explanation circulating about first-time recipients and autocomplete hasn’t been verified by the sources linked in that discussion.

For businesses using Microsoft 365, your IT team can use message trace to investigate whether Exchange Online received the message and what happened next. Share the sender, recipient, approximate sending time, and any error message so they can narrow the search.

If it keeps happening, document the pattern. Does it affect one employee, one recipient, or only messages sent through a particular Outlook app? Those details help IT investigate rather than guess.

And when a proposal, approval, or vendor deadline depends on that message, confirm receipt by phone or another established channel while the issue is being investigated.

“We’re saving money by keeping the old computers.”

But how much time does your team spend waiting on them?

Slow startups, frozen applications, and repeated restarts don’t appear on the purchase invoice. They show up in interrupted work, delayed tasks, and time spent troubleshooting instead of serving customers. Aging, unsupported systems can also create software compatibility problems and more requests for IT support.

Before deciding a computer is “still good enough,” look at how it performs during an actual workday. Can employees run the applications they need without frequent interruptions? Are the same issues coming back after repairs? Is its operating system still receiving security updates?

An older computer doesn’t automatically need replacing. The goal is to identify which devices still meet your team’s needs and which are costing more to keep than you realize. A planned, phased approach lets you prioritize problem devices instead of replacing everything at once.

Microsoft Entra ID might sound like another tool your business needs to buy. But if your team uses Microsoft 365, it’s already part of the system behind your work accounts.

Think of it as the service that helps confirm who employees are when they sign in and manages their access to connected applications. It lets your IT team manage users and groups centrally, rather than treating every application as a completely separate account system.

For your employees, that can mean using one work account to access multiple connected tools. For your business, it means a central place to manage accounts as people join, change roles, or leave.

So the question isn’t always “Do we need Entra ID?” It may be “Are we making good use of what we already have?” Start by asking your IT team how employee accounts are managed, which applications are connected, and whether your current setup meets your business’s needs.

“Everyone has admin access. It’s just easier.”

But does everyone need permission to install software, change security settings, or manage user accounts? Depending on the system, administrator access can give someone control over much more than their own work.

That access should reflect what their job actually requires, not a shortcut taken when their account was first set up.

It’s worth checking whether anyone still has elevated access from an old role or a temporary project. Your IT team should be able to explain which accounts have administrator permissions, who owns them, and why that access is needed.

Even employees who manage your technology should use a standard account for everyday tasks like email and web browsing, with a separate administrator account for work that requires it. That helps limit what an accidental download or compromised everyday account could affect.

The goal isn’t to make work harder. It’s to give your team the access they need without giving every account more control than necessary.

Not sure who has administrator access in your business? Reach out to Bernie Orglmeister at [email protected] or call 610-590-5006.

A firewall can be working today and still be past the point where its manufacturer provides updates or technical support. That’s worth checking, especially if you can’t remember when yours was installed.

Start with three questions: What model do we have? Is it still supported by the manufacturer? And when was its firmware last updated? Support status depends on the specific model, so the answer is better found in the manufacturer’s product lifecycle information than by guessing from the firewall’s age.

You don’t need to sort through that alone. SkyViewTek can review your firewall, check its support status, and help you plan an update or replacement if needed.

Your team shouldn’t have to wonder whether the Wi‑Fi will hold up during a video call or whether a shared file will take forever to open. Those everyday frustrations can be signs that the network needs attention.

A healthy business network has reliable Wi‑Fi coverage where people actually work, enough capacity for the devices using it, updated network equipment, a properly configured firewall, and monitoring that helps catch issues before employees report them. Backups should be checked and tested, too not just assumed to be working.

If calls keep dropping in one room, everyone slows down at the same time each afternoon, or an aging router needs frequent restarts, those are useful clues. SkyViewTek can help identify what’s causing the issue and what’s worth fixing first.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month! It is a chance to recognize the everyday steps that help businesses protect their people, information, and operations. A good place to start is with a few practical questions:

- Are important accounts protected with multifactor authentication?

- Do employees know how to verify and report suspicious messages?

- Are computers and software kept up to date?

- Is important business data backed up, and has the recovery process been tested?

Cybersecurity does not have to begin with a complete overhaul. Reviewing what is already in place can help you identify the next improvement that matters most to your business. SkyViewTek helps businesses strengthen their security with practical solutions that support their teams and keep operations moving. A new Gmail phishing technique is making scam emails far more convincing.

Instead of spoofing a Google address, attackers abuse Google’s recovery-contact feature to make Google send the email for them.

Here is how it works:

The attacker creates a Google account and sets the account name to a fake security warning containing malicious formatting, phishing links, and large blocks of blank space.

The attacker adds your email address as a recovery contact.

Google sends you a legitimate automated recovery-contact message from [email protected].

The attacker-controlled content appears inside the email, displaying a fake warning near the top and pushing the real Google recovery-contact notice lower in the message.

The phishing link can lead to a credential-stealing page hosted on sites.google.com, which is a real Google domain.

This means the sender address can be genuine, the message can pass SPF, DKIM, and DMARC authentication, and the link can appear to belong to Google.

How to stay safe:

Do not click links in unexpected security-alert emails.

Open a new browser tab and type myaccount.google.com or accounts.google.com yourself.

Review security activity, recovery contacts, recovery email, and recovery phone settings directly in your account.

Never enter a password, MFA code, backup code, or recovery code after following an unexpected email link.

Report suspicious messages as phishing in Gmail.

SkyViewTek helps businesses strengthen phishing awareness and create safer account-verification habits, especially as attackers find new ways to misuse trusted platforms. Reach out to Bernie Orglmeister at [email protected] or call 610-590-5006.

When an employee leaves, a thoughtful offboarding process helps everyone move forward with clarity.

Offboarding is more than a final-day checklist. It supports a professional transition for the departing employee, gives the remaining team access to the files and information they need, and helps keep day-to-day operations organized.

A well-planned offboarding process can include:

-Transferring ownership of important files, projects, and shared resources

- Documenting responsibilities and completing knowledge transfer

- Setting up an appropriate out-of-office response or email-forwarding plan

- Updating team contacts, roles, and vendor communication

- Recovering company devices, access cards, keys, and other equipment

- Transitioning and removing access to business email, cloud platforms, shared files, business applications, and company accounts

- Confirming that information and responsibilities have been handed off to the right people

Clear coordination between managers, HR, and IT helps prevent missed steps and supports a smooth transition for everyone involved. Removing access is one part of the process, helping ensure that business systems and information remain appropriately managed as roles change.

SkyViewTek helps businesses create practical offboarding processes that support organized technology transitions, appropriate access management, and continuity for the teams that remain. Reach out to Bernie Orglmeister at [email protected] or call 610-590-5006.

OneDrive, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams are all part of Microsoft 365, but they are not interchangeable. Each one is designed for a different type of work.

Using the right platform can make it easier to find files, control access, collaborate with coworkers, and keep important business information from getting lost in email attachments or personal folders.

Here is a simple way to think about it:

OneDrive is for my files. It is best for individual work, drafts, and documents that are not yet intended for a larger team. You can still share files with specific people when needed.

SharePoint is for our files. It is designed for organized, long-term shared documents such as company policies, client resources, department files, templates, and team knowledge.

Teams is for working together. It brings chat, meetings, calls, and active file collaboration into one workspace. Files shared in Teams channels are stored in SharePoint behind the scenes.

If one employee is working on a document, OneDrive may be the best fit. If a department needs a central, long-term location for shared documents, SharePoint is usually the better choice. If a group needs to communicate, meet, and collaborate on active work in real time, Teams can provide the right workspace.

The key is choosing the tool that matches the work your team needs to do.

SkyViewTek helps businesses set up Microsoft 365 tools in a way that is organized, secure, and easy for employees to use. Reach out to Bernie Orglmeister at [email protected] or call 610-590-5006.
