PHOTO, POINT CLOUD, OR GAUSSIAN SPLAT? Can you tell the difference?

While attending R-CON 2026 in Boise, Idaho, Katie Morris and Bret Burghdurf made a stop at Freak Alley Gallery, a colorful outdoor showcase of graffiti and street art!

We snapped a photo, then pulled out our TrueView GO NEO handheld LiDAR scanner to capture the same scene and create both a colorized 3D point cloud and a stunning 3D Gaussian Splat!

While in Boise, Idaho, for R-CON, Bret Burghdurf and Katie Morris took a little field trip after Matthew Byrd recommended checking out Freak Alley Gallery, just a few minutes from Boise Centre.

What an incredible place to Capture Reality! Packed with colorful graffiti, incredible murals, and amazing street art, this alley was the perfect place to put our TrueView GO NEO handheld LiDAR scanner to work!
