UPDATE: For all of the iPhone 6/+ and 6S/+ users, Error 53 has been patched by Apple. If your phone was bricked due to a home button replacement followed by an update, you may fix Error 53 and regain use of your phone by updating through iTunes on your computer with the 9.2.1 update patch. If your phone does not have a touch sensor, you don't have to update. This update is only available by attaching to a computer. There is no over the air update patch available. NOTE: This will not reenable your touch sensor function if it was not working prior to the Error 53 message. If you bought a replacement iPhone because of Error 53, contact Apple Care for reimbursement. Apple is having to pay for their greediness and uncaring approach to their customers, at least a little.
Follow these steps to get help updating or restoring your iPhone or iPad.
