Just a normal day here at MTR. We never considered putting new guts in old consoles. Why? Cause we have always been able to fix what's there.
But what happens when the original record player is gone? Put fully serviced, reliable, and repairable old stuff back in!
BSR aka Birmingham Sound Reproducers was a common choice in the 70s to replace German record players in consoles. It is no easy task to repair Grundig and Telefunken changers, take our word for it. This was a cost effective solution in the past and it still is to this day.
The customer wants a record changer capable of stacking LPs, 45s and the ability to play 78s (one at a time). It has to fit the cabinet without cutting or removing more material. It also needs to be isolated from the speakers to prevent feedback.
This Professional BSR is a higher trim model than what would have been available in most combo stereos and will tick every box. The tube amp, preamp, and radio has already been fully serviced. Now we mount, wire and test it all for functionality and get it wrapped up before Christmas time!
But how does it sound? Fine. It's a console after all. If you want great sound, don't buy a console. The limiting aspect of cabinet design, speakers, crossover, ect will never be able to compete with seperate components at the same price. The customer wants to enjoy their family heirloom as it was in the old days. This cabinet has been without a record changer for fifty years. Time to spin some wax!
