Did you know that living or working in a rural area doesn't require sacrificing IT technology?

Recently a client came to me about their Wi-Fi not reaching their garage about 160' away from their house. They wanted to stream music and connect devices to the internet but without cellular service, their Wi-Fi simply didn't reach that far out.

The solution was simple AND cost effective!

I installed this Ubiquiti NanoStation M2 managed outdoor access
point. When connected to their existing router in the house and mounted properly on the side of the house, this access point is beaming a strong Wi-Fi signal throughout their garage.

Along with the extended Wi-Fi is that this NanoStation allows full remote monitoring so I can observe equipment health and make any network changes that the client requests. All without having to go on-site!

Now the clients garage has full Wi-Fi / internet access. But even better, post installation testing showed this AP beaming internet up to a quarter-mile away on their property!

A good friend and customer requested help for a solution that would provide better and stable wireless service to their rural mountain property. This included better WiFi to technology devices inside and security cameras around the outside.

They originally were using the ISP's standard wireless router that was placed below ground level in the basement. This router was barely getting Wi-Fi upstairs let alone outside where the cameras were placed!

I was able to come in and install a full Ubiquiti setup. This included a new router, access points both upstairs and down stairs, along with a directional NanoStation M2 unit placed on the side of the house.

Not only does the customer have excellent coverage inside the house, but their security cameras upwards of 50yds away have full signal. The bonus is that Wi-Fi now covers several acres allowing Wi-Fi/cellular calling in the event there is an emergency outside!

Where has the time gone?

Windows XP was released in 2001 with it's successor (Vista) arriving in 2006. But Microsoft maintained security updates & support until 2014. By this time Windows 8 was out and Windows 10 was on the verge of being released.

Windows XP was considered one of the best versions of Windows ever. To this day, there is still a small subset of the internet using XP on IoT and old gamer groups.

What was your favorite version of Windows? Are you still using an old version of Windows, or will you continue to upgrade with each new version that is released?

How many of you grew up on, or used Windows 3, 3.1, or 3.11 back in the 90's before the modern era of Windows was developed?

On April 6, 1992, Windows 3.1 was released to manufacturing. 32 years later, it has been recognized as a major addition to Microsoft's Windows operating system lineup and paved the way for Windows 95.

Building custom gaming PC's for a customer is always a blast!

I helped advise this long time customer on what parts they needed, they purchased all items directly. Then brought it by the office for an afternoon of building and testing.

ARGB lighting throughout, RTX 4070, tempered glass case, 14th gen i5, and a rock solid MSI motherboard.

Still running Windows 8? Support for this OS ends on Jan. 9!

You are still entitled to a free Windows 10 upgrade from Microsoft. Reach out for help on upgrading!

Maybe it's a good time to upgrade instead? We have professionally refurbished laptop and desktop computers all running Windows 10 or 11.

Are your PCs running Windows 8.1? You might want to consider upgrading them to a more modern OS like Windows 10 or 11 soon, as Windows 8.1 will reach its end-of-support date exactly a month from now.

Running Windows 8? Support/updates are ending Jan 9! You can still get a free upgrade from Microsoft to Windows 10/11!

With the latest version of Windows 10, Microsoft is starting to phase out 32-bit hardware support. What does this mean for you & your computer?

Older 32-bit systems were limited in the amount of memory they could use. As programs become more memory 'hungry', they use up more memory thus your PC becomes slower with each passing year. In order to be more efficient on your PC, greater amounts of memory are required.

Microsoft has updated its documentation to say that beginning with the Windows 10 May 2020 Update, it will no longer be offering 32-bit versions of the operating system to OEMs for new PCs.

How many of you LOVE classic Solitaire and Freecell from the older versions of Windows, but are disappointed it's not included with Windows 8 or 10?

Well I have good news for you! You can download and install those classic games on your new computer. Just goto this link (it's safe) and install "Windows 7 Games for Windows 10".
